Hello and welcome
I thought vertigo had strong links with low Vitamin D levels and B12... ever had these tested?
Thanks for posting this, I have been rather negligent with my Vitamin D lately, I will get on to it immediately, thanks again. (I have B12 injections every 4 weeks). Have been suffering for 3 weeks with vertigo and it is driving me mad, you just can't do anything anymore.
Hope it helps 🤗
Me too, thanks again.
Just Googled and this was the response:-
“Our study suggests that for people with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, taking a supplement of vitamin D and calcium is a simple, low-risk way to prevent vertigo from recurring,” said Dr. Kim, who added, “It is especially effective if you have low vitamin D levels to begin with.”
Fantastic, I am on to it.....
There is a type of migraine called by various names like Vestibular Migraine, VM, or Migraine Associated Vertigo, MAV for short, where you can get a silent headache, but get symptoms of dizziness, light headedness, imbalance, as well as other symptoms like nausea, motion sensitivity, light sensitivity.
Its considered fairly rare and a lot of GP's are out of their depth frankly. The best person to see is a Neurologist , as they are experts in headaches. Migraine is more than "just" a headache, its a neurological disorder which can affect the whole body and is very debilitating.
The other thing is to get on a good migraine preventative medication, because once you get on one that suits your symptoms should recede. Are you in the UK?
I was diagnosed with VM last year so its a subject close to my heart lol.
Oh thank you so much for all the sharing it’s exactly
What I have VM no fun at all,, my Neurologist send me for Fisico therapy and Helping little bit.. I’m USA..
I tried 5 different medications for migraine prevention and couldnt get on with any of them, they either had intolerable side effects or did nothing. In January I started on Venlafaxine (Effexor) which has been brilliant.
I dont know if your Neuro has you on any anti migraine meds but Venlafaxine is becoming the gold standard in the US, its especially good for VM and visual vertigo, which I used to get a lot.
The other things to look at are stress reduction, getting enough sleep, trying to pace yourself and not get anxious, this is tough because feeling dizzy really increases anxiety and being anxious makes you more dizzy. Its a catch 22.
It can help some migraine sufferers to cut out caffeine, cheese, chocolate, alcohol and any food with MSG in it, these are very common migraine triggers, both for VM and classic migraines.
I found a really good online forum for VM started by one of your countrymen, its been an absolute Godsend, they discuss treatments, lifestyle changes, there are success stories to give you hope. Its called Mvertigo.org. I'd strongly recommend checking it out.
Vertigo is horrible. I have had it on and off for years as well. I found that ditching the high dose of levo and going on T3 only got rid of nearly all of my vertigo symptoms. Also the regular occurring migraines that I was having too. It was a high for me dose of 125mcg. The other thing it could be is this nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/... I do hope you can get it sorted before too long. I know how difficult it can be. Your doctor doesn’t have a very sympathetic approach. It may be related to migraine but certainly not the same thing. Hope you feel better soon.
Is there another doctor who you can see? This has gone on too long.
Ask for a second opinion.
Thanks for posting, I am going through this right now, I am all over the place this morning and feeling sick. I am going to try the vitamin D as mentioned by Eyesore. Good luck.
Have you been checked out for BPPV, or a virus that can cause Labrynthitis?
What is BPPV? How can they check for a virus causing Labrynthitis? Thanks
See this link for more info mayoclinic.org/diseases-con....
Its the most common cause of recurrent vertigo. And although theres no cure there are exercises you can do at home which keep it under control.
Your GP should be able to diagnose you by doing the Epley manouvre.
