Weight, bloating, and itchy arms

After a long, tortuous fight to get diagnosed and treated with/for hypothyroidism, which was achieved almost entirely with the help and info from this forum, I think that my meds are now very close to perfect and my blood test results are continuing to improve. So thank you again to everyone.

But I am now struggling with the following: severe bloating and being overweight. The 'itchy arms' mentioned are due to Brachioradial Pruritus.

Questions: Is Brachioradial Pruritus connected to the thyroid in any way?

Has anyone successfully tackled bloating and managed to lose weight, and if so how?

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year.

My bloating was cured by going gluten free.

Mine too, now I'm looking to go dairy free to attempt to rid myself of itchy inner ears.

Have you tried a cranial osteopath as their is a connection with cervical pressure and your skin condition (had to look it up)... I only mention as I went to see one about something completely different and she said "Hmm your neck is all out of alignment and this might be why you are reacting to histamines as there is a relay in your neck" 😵

Sounds like there could be gluten connection

Hi, and thanks for all replies (especially on Christmas Day!)

Sounds like going gluten free is a good place to start. The osteopath idea is interesting as I have already had an MRI on my neck in relation to the pruritus and ended up with the GP practice physio who said he'd never heard of it and hadn't a clue!

I also reckon (hope) that as I get more energy I will move more again, as I used to, although I've got older, fatter and less fit while I was ill but undiagnosed/treated, so an up hill climb.

Thanks again, it's much appreciated.

Hi . I have lost about 6 stone in two years as a result of better thyroid treatment, some support from overeaters anonymous to normalise my eating that had gone haywire due to years of dieting and gentle exercise. Fluid retention can be helped by drinking plenty of water.

Well done you! Congrats.

I will definitely be drinking more water. I am hoping that the 'correct' dose of meds will also help in time. I used to be able to knock half a stone off quickly, but I can't shift an ounce these days, and it becomes soul destroying, I find. Bad for your self-esteem.

When you say 'better thyroid treatment', do you mean getting the dose and the brand sorted - or something other than that?

Thanks so much for your reply.

I am on a mixture of levothyroxine and the active thyroid hormone T3. I have had to make ajustments recently but think I have the right dose now. I source my own t3 and have the support of a private endo who understands thyroid issues a bit better than most

Yes, same situation as me. Levo/T3 combo and private doctor plus private pharmacy via doctor.

Thank you, again.
