I have Hashimotos take T4 and T3. I’ve got way more energy since taking T3 which I source abroad as can’t get it in my area and have lost some weight but stuck at 11 stone and 5 ft.
My question is does anyone have any tips for loosing weight and bloating.
I eat gluten free only a little dairy. Salads for lunch very little bread and then still gluten free as is the porridge for breakfast but still clinically obese. Tried most things for bloating including ginger in tea daily, herbal teas for bloating traditional Chinese medicine (which help a bit). I drink 2 cups of green tea daily then one or 2 black decaf tea with ginger and herbal teas in the evening.
I tried intermittent fasting but no difference and worried this could actually make things worse.
I also walk most days 5-10000 steps. 5 ft and 11 stone is just not healthy but not sure what else to do.
Menopause finished.
Any advice on how to loose weight?

hi I am the same weigh and height as you I take Thyroxine. I have tried everything to loose weight diets exercise every day for 30 minutes and I don’t loose an ounce, it’s so frustrating.
I feel you it can be so depressing. If someone said just eat grapes for the rest of your life or something else and that would fix it I’d do it but there doesn’t seem to be an answer. Most of my life I’ve been a size 8 but now buying size 20 and being asked ‘when is it due?’
If your weight-gain is caused by hypothyroidism then the first thing to do is to optimise your thyroid hormones. Do you have copies of your latest blood test results that you can post here, with the ranges? You are probably under-medicated.
Hypo weight is more likely to be water-retention than fat, so low-calorie diets and excessive exercise are not going to help, and could make things a lot worse. You need calories to convert, so if you're not ingesting enough, or using them up exercising, your conversion is going to suffer and you will become more hypo and put on more weight.
Thanks for this information I am under medicated but the Dr says everything is ‘normal’. I’ve increased the T3 but want to do it gradually. I also have the DIO2 gene so know the results are really meaningless. The info on calorie intake is so useful and the articles too. Many thanks.

Not sure what you mean by that. If you are taking T3 exogneously, the results are just as meaningful as those of someone without the DIO2 polymorphism because you are no-longer relying on conversion of T4.
For a doctor, anything that is anywhere 'in-range' just has to be 'normal'. They don't know enough about thyroid to understand that it's the positon of the result within the range that is important, and that's it's right nor logical to think that results can be 'normal' all the way through the range. So, sometimes we just have to put our foot down and insist if we want an increase in dose. What is your FT3 level?
Unfortunately my Dr only tests my T4 and TSH. Can you tell me what levels my FT3 should be? I took a home self prick finger blood test before but none of my blood samples were usable so will have to find someone to privately take a blood sample and test my blood. Would be great to know what ranges I should be looking at? I will need to find somewhere in London I think.
Its crazy that doctors think that taking thyroid medication and eating and exercising will help you drop weight when every single person I have seen post from can’t drop the pounds with meds, exercise and diet…. Agh
