Can you recall if there was a trigger last time you had the rash Peppermints? How long did it last? Have you eaten any different foods/ used any new products? Does an antihistamine tablet help at all?
There are some autoimmune illnesses that are more common in hypothyroid people and there's at least one associated with a rash too. I'll let you do some research as I don't want to bias your thoughts on anything. It may be worth going to your GP about it if it keeps coming and going to be in the safe side.
I'm in the cusp of a bad thyroid. But my figures are in range so they won't even look at thyroid issues.
Even without any known triggers I'd go to doc with this, especially as it's on your cheek as well if I'm seeing the photo right. Less likely thyroid related tbh especially if you're not currently medicated for it.
does the rash itch?
I would be interested in hearing advice about rashes too….
I have been dealing with a rash explosion since October and am currently taking a high dose antihistamine to keep it at bay (180mg once a day). I haven’t been diagnosed with thyroid problems, but after reading the messages on here, suspect I have.
My rash appeared firstly in my armpits then spread across my chest, up my neck (front and back) and up the centre of my face, which caused some swelling. I have been managing skin rashes on my own for 12 years and never had anything as widespread at this.
It drove me insane with itching, especially at night, ruining my sleep even more than the hot flushes. Bizarrely, the hot flushes almost disappeared during the worst of the rash.
I am considering thyroid testing to find out for myself as the doctors don’t see a link.
One more opinion/experience.
I started getting rosacea about 10 years ago. I was diagnose hypo in Aug22.
Since I’ve been treating the hypo, the rosacea has cleared up (along with a dozen other symptoms, that were all also down to the root cause of my low thyroid hormones.)
This is a thyroid board so you will def get opinions skewed towards hypo or hyper. But whether you are or aren’t or will be - you can certainly get ahead of finding out with the advice of the board.
