hi can anyone advise me on these results?

Tsh - 0.84

Free t4 - 19.1

Folate - 5.1

B12 -1057 (on injections every 12 weeks)

Serum iron 15

Transferrin 2.69

Serum ferritin 80

Transferrin saturation 22%

So they are all listed as satisfactory.

But symptom wise -

Exhausted

Tachycardia (cardiology mentioned thyroid again but it seems normal)

Constantly cold but some night sweats

Weight loss (give from size 12-8 since beginning Oct)

Ibs symptoms - stomach cramps, frequent diarrhoea

Out of breath easily

Hair loss most noticeable when showering

Nausea

Loss of appetite

Irregular/ frequent periods - every 1-3 weeks

Chest pain

Lip numbness

Tiny clear fluid filled blisters on roof of mouth

Frequent bloodshot eyes

Back pain

Lightheadedness comes and goes

Some of those have been going on longer than others b12 was first found to be low in 2018 but only restarted on injections 6 months ago

Eyes - always put down to hayfever

Back pain since having kids

Ibs symptoms a good while worsened in the past 2 years

Im fed up feeling rotten and don't seem to be getting anywhere with the doctors

Can you add reference ranges for each test. Ranges vary from lab to lab so are important to quote - numbers in brackets after your result.

What supplements are you taking?

Your folate looks quite low.

Omega 3 is a good supplement to take to help many things especially eyes.

Tsh - 0.84 (0.27-4.2)

Free t4 - 19.1 (12-22)

Folate - 5.1 (3-26.8)

B12 -1057 (197-771) (on injections every 12 weeks)

Serum iron 15 (6-35)

Transferrin 2.69 (2.0-3.6)

Serum ferritin 80 (13-350)

Transferrin saturation 22%

Hi thanks I've added the reference ranges in brackets above. I take b12 injections and a multivitamin.

If thyroid hormone is to work well it needs OPTIMAL levels of vitamins.

We dont recommend multivitamins in this group for a number of reasons including they contain iodine which is a bad idea with a thyroid condition, too low a level of anything to raise a deficiency to optimal etc

If you are needing B12 injections then those alone have multiple cofactors including magnesium and potassium (which you should aim to get from your diet).

Theres no result for vit D. NHS easy postal kit vitamin D test £31 via

vitamindtest.org.uk

We really need to see a full thyroid panel to include FT3 to know where your thyroid status is. Currently your FT4 is at 71% of the range and could be higher. You could aks for a trial increase of 12.5mcgs.

To raise your folate (aim for a level of 20) and support your B12 injections a golod methyl/active type B complex is recommended.

Slightly cheaper options with inactive B6:

Contains B6 as P5P an active form:

Optimal ferritin is said to be 90-100 so your is just below that level at 80.

Iron results:

Serum iron : According to the rt3-adrenals link rt3-adrenals.org/Iron_test_...

• 55 to 70% of the range

• higher end for men

Given that your result is 31% through the range and you are female I would say your result is not high enough.

TIBC (total iron binding capacity) or Transferrin

• Low in range indicates lack of capacity for additional iron

• High in range indicates body's need for supplemental iron

Your transferrin is 22% through the range which is in the lower half of the range. This suggests that you don't have the capacity for more iron.

Despite a lowish serum iron it appears you dont have the capacity to supplement iron. Suggest you focus on food sources of good iron content such as chicken livers twice a week, pate etc

I've attached a table that might help you understand your results.

thanks, they didn't test t3 just the t4 and tsh. Don't think bit d has ever been tested.

I've been prescribed 5mg folate before for folate deficiency but levels came up to 8 and was told I didn't it anymore should I get more of that again or is the b complex better?

I was admitted into hospital beginning of Oct due to high heartrate and raised d dimer. Ct showed lung inflammation but at that point was also given iv potassium and phosphates as they were low. Though again I don't know why, I hadn't been vomiting. My diet is OK but I have frequent almost daily diarrhoea so definitely some issues there. Dairy is a definite trigger so don't have much of it.
