Just wondering what is classed as optimal B12 with Hashimoto’s? Mine is 84.7 (37.5-150). I don’t take it for a week before blood tests due to it affecting thyroid results.

Recently been feeling lightheaded, tingly and getting lots of head rushes and mild headaches and sensitivity to light so trying to work out what might be causing it 🤔

B12 doesn't affect blood results.

If you were taking a B complex that contained biotin then that might affect blood results.

What are you taking that contains B12?

84.7 for an active B12 level having not taken it for a week is pretty optimal. It would need to be over 75.

What other supplements are you taking?

What are your thyroid and other vitamin results - ferritin, folate & D3?

Hi,

Yes, it’s B-complex that I take.

I also take iron, Vit D, magnesium, selenium, zinc, omega 3 and Vit C.

My ferritin is 97.3 (13-150)

Vit D 99 (50-200)

Folate 16.59

TSH 0.06 (0.27-4.2)

T4 12.8 (12-22)

T3 4.77 (3.1-6.8)

I’m on Armour, which is why my T4 is low. I’m not getting my usual thyroid symptoms like fatigue, which is why I’m thinking it’s more likely to do with vitamins.

What is the reason you are taking iron? Are you vegan or vegetarian?

Suggest you get a full iron panel run to check that you need iron and haven't got too much already. Your ferritin is good.

Other vitamins also look good although no range fo folate.

Not everyone does OK on NDT with a low FT4. You could think about adding a small amount of levo.

How would I know if I have too much iron? I’m coeliac and was very anaemic (ferritin 2). Been taking it ever since and when I stopped for a while it went really low again. I could try reducing the dose.

Thats why you need to do a full iron panel to see where your actual iron levels are as opposed to ferritin which is the storage form of iron. Your ferritin is fine at the moment.

Perhaps reduce slightly and see what that looks like in a few months.

My iron and ferritin went up (very slowly) on iron supplementation and then dropped like a stone when I stopped it. I had to take a maintenance dose and test regularly for several years to (a) get my iron to rise, and (b) to keep my ferritin where I wanted it to be.

Eventually my iron and ferritin ended up at a level I could live with, it seemed to stabilise, and I stopped the iron supplements. But I still do an iron panel about twice a year.

You probably need dose increase

Either a 1/4 grain extra armour or add 25mcg levothyroxine

Will follow this thread, and will be interested to know what you learn about the light headedness. I’ve been getting these only once every week or couple weeks. Not unpleasant and doesn’t last more than maybe 5-10 seconds. But it’s a very notable 10 seconds of that light feeling in my head. If you find out it mean something or is linked to one particular vitamin or other, let us know!
