Just got back from Greece and you cannot buy Dithyron over the count anymore. I went to numerous pharmacies and got the same answer it’s now discontinued and they have nothing like it. It seems to be a very recent occurrence.
I’m wondering if I pay to see a private doctor there I could get armour thyroid or Erfa prescribed there at a more reasonable price? Or maybe just T3?
I’ve just been quoted £175 for my refill of Armour 100 1 grain tablets…. It’s soooo expensive. Dithyron was 1.5 eur for 30!
Any thoughts/suggestions most appreciated.

I don't remember even one single person being successful in getting any form of desiccated thyroid within Greece.
There is a small number of other combination tablets available in a few countries. One or two might even be obtainable within the UK if you have, or can get, a prescription.
helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:
helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines
helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.
This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.
The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.
Hi could you advise the t3 tablets available in the uk my Gp has taken on my t4 75mg t3 15mg medication I prefer tablet to capsules unfortunately i don’t have a desk top to open links
We need more options for meds, not less. I worry about this all the time. I hate homogenisation of standards for everything in every country.
The withdrawal of NaturThyroid from the NDT market has resulted in sky rocketing prices due to lack of competition. I can no longer afford Armour or NP thyroid as a main medicine and definitely not Erfa, I almost had a heart attack when I saw the more recent price of that.
So I can only afford to take along with T3 or T4. And I am bitter. I was reading on Reddit forum a lady said it cost her less than $10 to buy Armour a few decades ago!
We need more thyroid meds and more choice. Sigh. Oh well, I guess it wasn't making anyone any money...😤
Well if you know the dose of Armour/Efra you need you can just do it for yourself -
without a prescription :
I believe Roseway - a Laboratory listed on the Private Blood Company page within the Thyroid Uk website - thyroiduk.org - now offer video consults and prescribe - so this might make sense for you.
This is just to make sure you are aware. I completely understand why people help each other like this.
And when did you last get T3 like that? We have seen many posts over the past few months saying T3 is effectively unobtainable in Greece. I wouldn't count on getting hold of any in the near future.
My mistake. So sorry. Helvella is of course right. I read off the NHS foil and not the one I got from Greece which is Uni pharma. My friend brought it earlier this year for me.
It´s still available online; I bought some not long ago.
