Armour to t4/t3 combo

I have just seen my endo 🤦‍♀️ And I suggested I might try a t4/t3 combo which I have never tried or been offered before. I currently self medicate on armour after having a terrible time on t4 only. I feel really well on armour except my weight keeps creeping up no matter what I try (and believe me I’ve tried!). And the cost and difficulty obtaining it doesn’t help either! So I have now been given a prescription for t4 and t3. I currently take 2.5 grains armour split between two doses. I feel that I would like to slightly reduce my t3 and slightly increase my t4 intake as my recent bloods show I maybe have a little too much free t3:

Free t3 = 5.3 (3.1 - 6.8)

Free t4 = 10 (11-22)

Tsh = <0.01 (0.30-5.00)

Can anyone recommend what dosage of t4 and t3 I should take?

Many thanks

Anna

Armour contains 38 mcg of T4 and 9 mcg of T3 per 1 grain. So 2.5 grains will contain 95mcg T4 and 22.5mcg T3.

Your FT3 result of 5.3 (3.1 - 6.8) is 59% through range, so doesn't show that you are overmedicated with T3.

Your FT4 is pretty low, but that's common on Armour

Suggest you try 100mcg Levothyroxine and 20mcg T3 (many of us need T3 as split dose - 3 doses 8 hours apart)

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and vitamin D last tested?

Presumably you have Hashimoto's?

Have you had both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested?

Are you on strictly gluten free diet

As SeasideSusie has already said, your FT3 levels don’t indicate you’re over-replaced. Please note that a suppressed TSH doesn’t mean anything when you take medication containing T3.

If anything you might well have benefitted from a small raise in NDT dosage.

How much levothyroxine and liothyronine have you been prescribed?

I have been prescribed 125 of t4 and 2 x 5mcg doses of T3, even I can see that the T3 is not comparable with the Armour!
