Porcine derived Adrenal Glandular?

Alanna012 profile image

Does anyone know of a brand that is obtainable? The only one I was able to find after copious searching is near nigh impossible to get delivered (or maybe my searching isn't good enough). I would like to see if a porcine derived one is more biologically suitable for me than the bovine which the majority of them are. Currently I take Thorne Adrenal or Adrenavive, but I am finding those not as effective as I'd like and wonder if a porcine derived one would be slightly better.

All suggestions welcome!

I once called around pharmacies to find who had it.. I think I found one in Acton... Then I asked who a prescribing doctor was... Sadly it didn't suit me... I think a [ redacted doctor ] in London prescribed some for a friend and it changed her life, but that was some time ago...

Are you sure that the doctor prescribed a porcine adrenal extract - (not thyroid)?

This is the one I found that I cannot get hold of. However someone has said they looked into it and may in fact be bovine. Though it states porcine extraction.

It is very clear about being porcine. Afraid I have no idea how to get hold of it or anything else similar.

But I was wondering whether the doctor mentioned by finder actually prescribed an adrenal glandular of any sort? I'm not aware of anything that can be prescribed in the official legal sense. But the word "prescribed" is sometimes used by and in relation to various practitioners who are not acting as medical doctors.

It would be interesting to know

I managed to get it ordered after contacting an online seller who told me my browser was the issue preventing me getting through the check out process. But it's still costing a hefty penny of just over £40 in comparison to Thorne adrenal which I paid £28 for two bottles! It will be interesting to see if there is any difference...

helvella ' the word "prescribed" is sometimes used by and in relation to various practitioners who are not acting as medical doctors.'

Yes, we immediately and instinctively think of prescription medications when we see that word, but everyone that has studied almost anything seems to want to use the word 'prescribe/d' these days. Can be misleading for sure.

It’s declared hormone-free …

The phrase "hormone-free" is widely used for various supplements - but pretty much never defined.

The immediate meaning would be that there are absolutely no hormones at all. That would imply no point taking it.

But an intermediate meaning is that it does not contain any of the hormones used as growth promoters in animal husbandry.

The final interpretation is that they'll say anything to ensure authorities do not take any interest in their products.

Hmm. Very confusing for the consumer

I take Adrenavive. Not sure whether it says hormone-free on the tub but it most definitely helps when raising my hormone replacement. Quells the feeling of being over-medicated

Out now but will check the website

Have just been looking at another product which claims:

Proprietary Blend

porcine glandulars (processed to remove

hormones) (gonad, adrenal cortex, hypothalamus,

anterior pitutary), inositol

Difficult to know how it is supposed to work. Also, questionable the process(es) they use to remove all the hormones. Other than some sort of heat-treatment, I can't think of any way of doing that.

I agree

Adrenavive website very cleverly states nutritional value is preserved by the careful manufacturing process and declares it free of undesirable growth hormones and antibiotics

Glad I read that again, it reminded me why I take their products

Glandulars are meant to work on the premise of 'like curing like' and function more as adaptogens I guess, hence hormones are removed.

Glandulars work by replacing what the body is failing to produce itself

How can they if they don't contain any hormones?

Noelnoel profile image
Noelnoel in reply to Alanna012

If the gland is carefully processed then whatever’s in the gland remains in the gland. If a product is declared hormone-free then I assume it to be useless and avoid it

helvella profile image

We never see any certification or assay to show they have no hormones.

And there have been several studies of thyroid glandulars some of which had very significant thyroid hormone content. Some even appearing to contain synthetic (T4 and/or T3) seemingly added to the product.

helvella profile image
helvellaAdministratorThyroid UK in reply to Alanna012

If that is how they work, why does anyone use products like Armour with officially determined thyroid hormone content?

And how on earth can you dose? I mean, even if you take the same dose, the effective potency could vary unless the manufacturer is measuring something!

Alanna012 profile image
Alanna012 in reply to helvella

Well I cannot take all glandulars the same way I take NDT and am left questioning how some people do well on glandulars. It is interesting.

I would hazard a guess that manufacturers -at least some - do measure. I can’t know that though

And how on earth can you dose? I mean, even if you take the same dose, the effective potency could vary

True and with the added possibility that each capsule content is permitted 20% (I think I’m right in saying this) under or over. Ancestral bovine thyroid glandular consistently had more per capsule

May have been my migrainy interpretation last night 🙄 couldn't understand why they were saying BSE free from Denmark when pigs don't get BSE 🙃... ever suspicious 🕵️‍♀️

It's always good to go with a suspicious or questioning mindset when buying supplements of meds from abroad. At least initially! There's so many scammers about

helvella profile image

It's like gluten-free being plastered across products that have NEVER contained any gluten.

It is a marketing claim with little or no basis in the real world.

Yes, I'm noticing that more and more too. Totally ridiculous!

Or Vegan when it there was no other possible category it would have fit in anyway. What was it I saw the other day? Maple syrup with VEGAN in bold lettering. Likewise dried prunes. Were animal products being added to Maple syrup and prunes beforehand or am I missing something?

Actually, no....

Thank you for the tip finder!

I remember doing research years ago and this was the only brand that came up.

I wonder why they ship the raw material from Denmark to Canada but cannot sell the product in Europe?! All available sellers seem to be in Canada.

Alanna012 profile image
Alanna012 in reply to

I really don't understand that either!! It's super annoying. You then have to pay £££ to get it shipped back in the direction it came from. There appears to be only one place that someone found that appears to ship it.

My other question is if they are doing it, why aren't other brands. They are all bovine. As you say, I can only find this one product.
