Adrenal Glandular vs Adrenal Cortex

At comparable doses i.e. 50/50, are said to be comparable in strength.

But surely 50mg Cortex has stronger Cortisol affect than 50mg whole glandular ( whose Cortisol affect will be a percentage of the whole)?

Any thoughts or advice.

Hi simon,

Corttex is just that part of adrenal gland, not the whole gland.

...hi penny..so isn't it better to have the Nutri Adrenal supplements?

PinkNinja in reply tosporty333

Some people don't get on with Nutri Adrenal because it also seems to raise their adrenaline. They already have higher adrenaline levels compensating for the low cortisol so in their cases Nutri Adrenal causes side effects such as anxiety and feeling agitated. For these people, the adrenal cortex only supplements appear to work better.

I was fine with Nutri Adrenal, as many are but for some the cortex-only supplements work best :)

Many thanks!

Sorry, I just re-read what I wrote and realised it is not at all clear :(

Cortisol is produced in the adrenal cortex but adrenaline is produced in the rest of the adrenals. By providing a supplement of cortex only, it shouldn't affect adrenaline levels.

I hope that makes a little bit more sense now :D

I'm really caught by your response, Carolyn. I have suffered from anxiety all my life, have a tendency towards it and only in the last few days have woken up to the fact it may have a physiological cause, having learned on here that it can be a symptom of hypo and hyper. I'm now wondering, having read your explanation, if I should try the cortex supplements as opposed to the Nutri Adrenal Extra I take. If I were to switch, how do I calculate the like-for-like dose? could you advise, please?

Thanks you.

Just a pointer, if you want to reply to someone in particular, you have to make sure to click on 'reply to this' otherwise they will not get an email letting them know that you have responded.

I'm sorry, I'm not really sure how to calculate the dose. I suppose if you look at the dose range for Nutri Adrenal and for the cortex only you might be able to work it out from there. It is probably best to go by the information on the bottle and work from there.

Are you currently taking Nutri Adrenal? If so, how much? I know some of Dr P's patients take quite high doses but I was ok on 1 a day.

Sorry I couldn't be more specific

Hi, Carolyn - no need to apologise. I take 3 Nutri Adrenal Extra a day - he said my adrenals were seriously shot. Actually, I am working up to doing a cortisol test privately; the endo did a synacthen test on me at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon when I'd nrever even heard of it, let alone expected it! the adrenals, so he said, were fine! Do you a supplier for the Cortex supplement, or what it's called, so that I can check it out? Or will it be on Thyroid UK? (Being a bit lazy - conserving a bit of search energy by trying to pick your brains - sorry!)

Thanks,

Steph xx

Schenks,

Hi Steph, have read that Isocort is one of the strongest. But Allergy Research Adrenal Cortex has been suggested to me.

Need feedback from those who have already tried Cortex products to asses which to order.

Same boat as you. And how compares mg for mg to Nutrie Adrenal.

All best

Thanks, Penny - not sure how long it's going to take to get my head round the latest stuff I'm learning, but I'll give this a go.

Kindest regards,

Steph

Hi Schenks

I've just joined today so this message is rather late and probably surplus to need by now. However I had to drop you a line as I too suffer with anxiety and I had a really bad episode - lasting several terrifying days in which I felt sure I was losing my mind - triggered,as it turns out, by use of mixed adrenals (as opposed to 100% adrenal cortex). It didn't happen right away but after a few weeks of taking the supplement, presumably once the additional adrenaline had built up to an overly high a level in my system. I don't know how it works exactly. I only know I never want to experience anything like it again. Now, maybe it's just me who gets affected this way. I don't dismiss the possibility that I'm just a freakishly sensitive odd-ball! But I felt I had to at least let you know what the stuff did to me. More recently I tried the new plant based ISOCORT formula - and by an ironic contrast that did nothing at all! I'm now looking for a recommended adrenal cortex supplement - which is what brought me here today. Anyway, the long and the short of it is (as I understand it), cortex-only adrenal supplementation is the safer option for nervy types like me. Here's hoping my 3rd time attempt will be the lucky one, eh!

Wishing you well, honey

Hi, cherub - thanks for your reply. As a newbie you are really well-informed...took me months! What are mixed adrenals? I am currently weaning off all adrenal supplementation in prep for a saliva test, so I'm not sure if I'll be going back onto them. I am about to read Paul Robinson's book on the subject and he is none too keen on adrenal supplementation blind, as it were. How did you find out your needed adrenal supplements? And how does adrenalin build up - shouldn't it be broken down after a while? I really suspect the bloody adrenal supplement because since reducing it, I do feel less 'nervy'.

Wish it was more clear from the outset about the difference between adrenal supplements and cortex-only supplements, though.

Wishing you well too, kid let this 'nervy one' know how you're doing, huh?
