Weird optical lights/constant bad headache

Hi everyone ❤️

OK for a while now I've been having bad headaches just thought it was apart of everything I've been going through... Struggling with thyroid medication, and being diagnosed with primary hyperparathyroidism.

About 3 weeks ago I started seeing weird optical lights and strange light disturbances mainly in my left eye, I recognised these symptoms before but in my right eye that turned out to be a clot some years previous 🤦‍♀️, anyway I went to my optician on wed for a quick eye rest, I was immediately told I needed to go to the hospital 🤦‍♀️ as the optician could see some clots and some swelling on my optic nerve, so I chose carslile as I'm not at all keen on my own hospital on my doorstep 🤦‍♀️.

Saw specialist yesterday, I indeed do have a large swelling on my optic nerve with a splattering of clots throughout the eye, I'm attending the stroke clinic next week in carslile.

But the specialist asked some medical questions so I told her all my health woes since full thyroidectomy in 2019 and primary hyperparathyroidism diagnosis again in 2020, 2005 chronic fatigue syndrome, fibro, she was most interested saying one or more of your conditions can have a bearing on eye health she asked what thyroid hormone I was talking, T3 I said, but I've been on T4 and couldn't get along with it, but also T3 is causing gut problems as well as headaches ect.

I told her what the endocrinologist told me about pooling the t3 in the system it not getting to where it should, causing it to pool in the blood, she was very interested and as asked me to mention this at the stroke clinic next week.

So what was soupose to be a eye test as turned out to ww2... 😂😂😂

Optical/ flashing lights can be a sign of a detached retina...was that checked?

The specialist said server swelling on the retina( optic nerve) and clotting, but never mentioned it being detached 🤷‍♀️.. I'm hoping to get more info at the stroke clinic next week.. I want all info on what my pictures show, they did a full blood work up to.. So I want the printout of those also.My calcium and parathyroid were over range on my last bloods (under endo at Liverpool) (primary hyperparathyroidism noted) so I have a lot going on health wise... But I must admit after thyroidectomy and being put on thyroid medication I've never felt well🤦‍♀️

Few years ago, not long before GP finally diagnosed me with hypothyroidism I had two episodes. GP said they were focal migraines and nothing to worry about. Each kasted less than an hour . (I think it was a phone consultation.)

I’ve had those weird eye sensations - like jagged tiny diamonds or pyramids flashing around whether eyes open or closed. Got told is was teichopsia - visual migraine. Often Happens when I have new meds.

Sounds like you should be going to an eye hospital. Yours is different to mine. I had a detached retina but with very different symptoms. I went to Southampton Eye hospital after visiting my GP twice I just turned up there. It was too late to save my sight the surgeon rang the GP to complain. After the op I can just see but GP's are useless. I never had any thyroid problems then it was years ago.

Your headache sound as if you need to go to a stroke clinic. I don't think that yours is a detached retina.

Yeah that's where I'm going next week... Stroke clinic in carslile, but this is my second clot, had a large clot on my right eye some years ago, I went blind my optician sent me to gp immediately then gp sent me to hospital, I was put on introvnece blood thinners.I was in hospital for 11 hours until the clot diminished, then came bk for pupil dilation, turns out I'd had a Mini stroke (the specialists words) they gave me aspirin but I had a very bad reaction to it and we're admitted back into hospital where I was told not to take aspirin.

My site was impaired and I had to have glasses, put back into gp care, where, there was no real care at all from him😠

The specialist at carslile eye hospital on wed asked why was I not on blood thiners? As I definitely should have been after the first clot... I have no idea I said, my gp never offered me anything.

I'm just waiting for a phone call to attend the stroke clinic now,.. But you can bet I'll be asking loads of questions 👍

I am glad that you are getting the help you need. GP's have a lot to answer for. My friend in Romsey has a brilliant GP but or course he is older and caring.

Good Luck next week please let us know how you get on.
