Up to date list of endocrinologists that have prescribed T3

Hi, please could someone private message me the link to the most up to date list?

My wonderful GP who has helped my symptoms massively over the past year via T3/T4 combo has now retired and as expected the surgery and their endo are immediately trying to take me off T3, despite the fact that my historical results cleary show I dont convert T4 Levo and it is of no use to me.

Does anyone know if we can request a referral to a specific NHS endo as long as they are within the area?

Thank you

Have you ever done Dio2 gene test?

Can be helpful, assuming you test positive, to get recognition of needing T3

Thank you very much SlowDragon

Do you happen to know if people have found it possible to request a certain endo from the list via the GP instead of the one i am currently waiting to see? The reason for asking is the endo has told the GP to try putting me back on levo whilst i am waiting to see them but i dont agree so she has said she will leave me on the combination until i see them. Obviously i now know before i see the endo that they either havnt read my notes properly (which clearly state t4 alone doesnt work for me) or they arnt open to supporting t3 use. So i would prefer to try to get my referral changed to one that has been open to t3 but dont know if this is possible?

You can but try

Roughly where in U.K. are you?

Some on list are private and NHS …..

SlowDragon Im on the western edge of lincolnshire close to leics/notts /cambs/rutland borders so Leicester/Peterborough would be ideal.

Unfortunately there is no NHS endos on the list anywhere within the regions (i rang up about DR Jonathan Rowland in Peterborough but he is now retired so can be removed from the list at next update)

I've just sent you a private message about who I see in that area. It's frustrating that Dr Rowland is still on the list, as I updated Thyroid UK 2-3 years ago when I was first referred to Peterborough that he was no longer there and should be removed from the list.

You can ask but there's really no guarantee even if you get the referral you want. Once you get to the hospital you may end up seeing a different Endo as often referrals are 'pooled' within a department.

To be more certain you would be better of going privately if that is at all possible but then you wouldn't be able to get T3 on the NHS.

Really beginning to wonder what is happening in a world with increasingly less medical autonomy and respect for the doctor-patient relationship and its decisions. I understand why so many people are going abroad for medical tourism. Hope something works out for you.

SlowDragon thanks for suggesting the dio2 test, i did get a positive result from it. Just got to make sure it gets looked at by the endo when they do their review now and hope that the GP makes the results available to them as i have no way of having direct contact for their initial case review.

vast majority of endocrinologists are diabetic specialists and many not even heard of Dio2 test

have you inherited from both parents- homozygous or only one parent- heterozygous

If you want to be sure to see a thyroid specialist you likely need to see privately initially

You have the right to choose if you are referred to a specialist by the GP. See nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/about-...
