Please add reference ranges to all results...they vary from lab to lab!
We can then advise with more accuracy.
T4 12-22TSH 0.30 - 4.20
T3 3.1 - 6.8
So...
TSH 1.63 (0.30 - 4.20)
FT4 17.2 (12 - 22)
FT3 3.4 (3.1 - 6.8)
Vit B12. 676 ( 160 - 925)
Important question! How do you feel....any symptoms?
Probably underpar!
It's not all about numbers!
Your B12 looks fine
Your FT3 is very low but since we don't have results for essential nutrients Vit D, folate and ferritin it's not clear if this might be nutrient deficiency or poor T4 to T3 conversion....or both
I suspect both!
Suggest you ask to be referred to an endocrinologist with a view to having a trial on T3
looking at previous posts
You have Hashimoto’s
Are you on gluten free or dairy free diet
Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking
Folate is low
Likely to need daily vitamin B complex
Presumably you supplement B12?
You need to retest vitamin D
Increase iron rich foods in your diet to get ferritin at least over 70
FT4: 17.2 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)
Ft4 is only 52.00% through range
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking
You have room for increase in dose
Thanks. My NHS doc has never actually diagnosed me with hashimoto. It was suggested by medi checks.
I currently take Vitamin D, C and was thinking of adding magnesium and zinc for mood. I cook gluten free and apart from some natural yog in the morning I'm practically dairy free.
I'm on 100 mcg levo. Was on 125 but my levels started going the other way towards hyper.
Was on 125 but my levels started going the other way towards hyper.
Please add results from then
How did you feel
Most important results are always Ft3 followed by Ft4
Important that all four vitamins are optimal
You could try initially increasing to 112.5mcg (cutting 25mcg tablet in half)
Always make sure you get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription
So you are not currently taking any B12 ?
High B12 without supplements can be deceiving
Vit B12. 676 ( 160 - 925)
Paradoxical B12 deficiency
b12oils.com/paradoxical.htm...
Low folate
Serum folate 13.6 (2.9 -50)
supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)
This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too
Difference between folate and folic acid

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast
Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)
Thorne currently difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay
Other options

Igennus B complex popular option too. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease
Gluten Free diet does need to be absolutely strictly gluten free to be effective
Thanks for all that. Alot to take in. I feel fine in my body, very active lots of energy. It's that low mood that stops me in my tracks sometimes. Like right now I should be looking for a job but feel an aversion to it because I know what sort of job I need to find and it depresses me the thought of going back into a clinical corporate environment.
Anyway, I'm going to insist on bloods for my vitamins. I asked last week, thought that was what I was getting but it only turned out to be B12.
I also don't want to become so fixated on all this that I end up just talking about health issues all day long. No one needs to hear that! Thanks for your advice xx
