I was advised to take selenium for hair loss. Finally discovered it seemed to affect my wellbeing quite dramatically. Depression has lifted since I stopped. Oh and from my view, it had not made any improvement to the condition of my hair.

Inositol seems to be very good for a number of conditions especially PCOS and insulin resistance related diseases. I have also noticed some people find it very good for anxiety and even OCD. I think it's one of those things one would need to try out to see if it was helpful to them. I have recently bought some for my husband so I might also try it myself. As for selenium, I've been taking Selenomethionine for years. I buy mine from Amazon by Heath4All.

What I like about this paper is the sensibly modest doses of selenium discussed.

Too many take higher doses which are likely to be of no greater benefit and could, with prolonged use, result in too much selenium. (A few years ago, suggested doses were far too high.)

That took some reading, but was worth it. I'm Subclinical H-Hypo.

I felt spectacularly better after being on 6 Brazil nuts (selenium) a day for 2-3 months - this before I discovered my ferritin/B12/Folate was low in range and Vit-D was in the low 40s nmol/L. I'm now actually self-supplementing on a daily 200mcg capsule of Selenium (as well as a host of other supplements), but have often wondered if I could drop the Selenium capsule to one every other day. I guess trial and error raises itself here.

What made me annoyed in reading this is the plain way the review states that SCH leads to increased risk of - just about everything. Yet try and argue your case with a GP... [sigh]
