Would you be able to make any other comments such as how you are feeling?

What dose of thyroid replacement are you on?

What time of day was this test and did you allow 24 hours from your last Levo dose before the test?

Free T4 (fT4) 18.5 pmol/L (7.7 - 20.6) 83.7%

Free T3 (fT3) 5.4 pmol/L (4.2 - 6.9) 44.4%

How are your key vitamins looking and what are you supplementing with?

I am feeling terrible. I took the levothyroxine the morning of the blood test by mistake. I am taking 50 mcg levothyroxine. I react to all supplements and always have done. Why is my TSH abnormal.

Your TSH may well be low due to low B12. I can't see an actual result that you have posted recently but you have had B12 injections before. Can you ask for the injections again?

You also need ferritin, folate & D3 tested. If your vitamins are low then that can bring your TSH down.

So you likely need a Levo increase at this point.

I had a holding dose of B12 and it hasn’t improved anything. I was left for three years without an injection and have neuropathy. I think it is too late for me and I face life in a wheelchair disabled.

Wait and see how you feel in a few months. Do you have more loading doses of B12 due?

You can get iron with an infusion so see if you can push for that. For B12 to work well you need several different vitamins at good levels including D3, ferritin, , folate, magnesium, potassium etc

I took the levothyroxine the morning of the blood test by mistake. I am taking 50 mcg levothyroxine

That was a pity

Ft4 would have been lower if last dose levothyroxine was 24 hours before test

Can you push for small dose increase in levothyroxine to 67.5mcg 2 days a week (cutting a 25mcg tablet in half )

Retest in another 6-8 weeks

Which brand of levothyroxine are you taking

How long since last B12 injection

Request GP test folate, Vitamin D, ferritin and B12

Levythyroxine Wockhardt brand. Last dose of B12 22nd August. Next one 3rd October. Thanks SlowDragon.

Do you know why my TSH is abnormal. I read that it can be the medication is too high. At the moment I have got a lot of symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I don’t understand what is happening. I feel helpless.

Stay on just 50mcg dose and retest in another 6-8 weeks including folate, ferritin, vitamin D

Hypo symptoms can feel like hyper

Has anyone tested your adrenals. Short synathin test or 24 hours urine test to check cortisol levels

Morning SlowDragon. A doctor is ringing me on the 19th. I had a blood test for cortisol and that was normal but not the test you are talking about. I seem to have symptoms from hypo and hyper. I will ask for a vitamin test as it is due now. Is a low tsh like mine dangerous. I am very worried. I have had tests where my tsh has been 0 and this doctor just says don’t worry about it. I feel so weak and am just lying in bed or asleep. Thank you for your reply.

Ignore TSH it’s irrelevant on levothyroxine

Most important results are always Ft3, followed by Ft4 and maintain GOOD vitamin levels

Thank you for your reply and calming me down. I will stay on 50mcg and ask my doctor for another thyroid test and vitamin tests.

Next thyroid test in another 6 weeks

You could get vitamin levels tested now

Meerkat1234 profile image
Meerkat1234 in reply toSlowDragon

Why does the thyroid test have to be six weeks. I will get Vitamins tested when doctor rings.

Lalatoot in reply toMeerkat1234

Because it takes at least 6 weeks for things to settle and the body to adjust to dose changes. For some folks they don't feel the full benefits of a change for 12 weeks. You need to give the body time to adjust otherwise you might make another change which you didn't need if you had just waited.

Hello Lalatoot. I have been on 50mcg for a long time and have been unwell and just had the thyroid test. I didn’t know it can be twelve weeks. Thanks for replying.

GP won’t retest thyroid levels when you have just had them tested

They think it irrelevant when last dose levothyroxine is taken

That’s a patient to patient tip ….that last dose levothyroxine should be 24 Hours before test

Request vitamin levels tested

Meerkat1234 in reply toSlowDragon

Thanks for the explanation. What will I say to get them tested again.

How long since Folate, ferritin and Vitamin D last tested

What were most recent vitamin results and ranges

when was your last B12 injection

Are you now taking either daily vitamin B complex or if you can’t tolerate vitamin B complex……daily folate

Meerkat1234 profile image
Meerkat1234 in reply toSlowDragon

They were tested in January.

Results were as follows

Serum vitamin B12 202 ng/L NR 145-914

Serum Ferritin 117.8 ug/L,NR 11.00- 307.0

serum Folate 4.28:ug/L NR 3.00 - 20.00

serum Vitamin D 31nmol/L, NR N/A

I was wondering how I would get another thyroid test without explaining about the levyroxine taken that morning. Last ab12 injection of holding dose with private osteopath was on 22nd August and due next one on 3rd October six weekly. What, vitamin b complex is gentlest.

I took Folate and had sickness and diarrhoea for a week. vitamin D gives me diarrhoea. I took calcium and D3 okay. A nuclear bone scan in 1997 showed my hips and spine were only half as strong as normal, goodness knows what they are like now.

I know you tried vitamin D mouth spray with k2 and reacted badly

You might consider trying vitamin D gel - just olive oil and vitamin D

Eg

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toMeerkat1234

you might try this vitamin B complex

Perhaps start with ONE DROP in a small glass of water

Only start one at a time

Then wait at least 10-14 days before adding the other
