I am a 36 year old male struggling with my health generally. Day to day I struggle with low mood, fatigue, hair loss, dry skin, infertility and struggling to lose weight, my face has changed too. My daughter was diagnosed with a thyroid issue when she was born and takes levothyroxine daily. When she was born my wife and i were tested but found our thyroid function was ok. Now that i have presented with these symptoms for the last 3 months i am convinced its a thyroid issue so i went to my doctors for bloods.
I have the results and my thyroid results are normal but im not convinced. Could you offer any advice or support on the results.
TSH 2.58 (0.27-4.20)
T4 18 (10.50-24.50)
Serum ferritin 221 (30.00-400.00)
The GP doesn't seem to have tested B12 and vitamin D so i will be requesting this. Is there anything else they should test?
Your help and input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex

What has been tested is in range, but you haven’t been given a complete test. You also need FT3 and thyroid antibodies TPO & TG antibodies. Could antibodies have previously been tested when you daughter was born?
Most have a TSH or under 2 so this is perhaps little higher but not necessarily abnormal. The TSH is a chemical signal to stimulate thyroid. The higher it is the higher your thyroid has to work to maintain the thyroid levels.
FT4 is the hormone from the thyroid & the thyroid also produces a tiny quantity of T3 but most T3 is converted from FT4. FT3 is the active hormones that the body needs.
Unfortunately doctors go by TSH and when in range the lab doesn’t test the thyroid hormones.
Folate, B12 and vitamin D should also be tested.
There are private blood testing option. You order a postal kit. Take fingerprick sample which can be done DIY at home.
