I went for my bloods taken today. I had asked for vitamins checked TSH , Free T 3 and 4. I was told that the T3 and T4 had not been asked for and I said I’d even written to the dr asking for those to be added. Vit D also wasn’t asked for even though I’d asked for that too. She agreed to do tge Ft3&4 but wouldn’t do the Vit D unless dr had asked for it as it was an expensive test to do!!!!! She said it was done last November and it was in tge norm. It was in the norm but just, it was 59 (norm 50-150) so I said that surely was low and with the symptoms I have should have been rechecked! She was not allowed to make that decision so said I’d have to speak to the dr about it when my results come back!!! I know if they are even just in the norm they will not get in touch with me but I will get your opinion as I will post them on here when they come back as I can see them on my notes. What is the point of just doing half a job???

Bloods taken
If you had your Vit D checked before you were lucky, so many members have this test refused for just the reason you have stated - it's an expensive test - plus "nearly everyone in the UK is deficient or low" so they rarely do it. Most of us do the test ourselves when it's refused by the GP. There is an NHS lab that does a postal dried blood spot fingerprick test for the general public for £32:
As it's recommended to test twice a year when supplementing it's very unlikely that the NHS will do this anyway.
Lucky to get Vitamin D tested via GP at all
NHS won’t retest for at least 2 years
Test yourself via NHS private test twice year …..end of summer and mid winter
Might need higher dose vitamin D in winter than summer
Really? I’ve had mine tested twice in 12 months as well as other vitamins. But, I definitely don’t feel lucky as what’s the point when they know very little about nutrition.
Gosh. GPs and NHS are strange folk.
Sorry about your experience Judyrabbit I’ve had my TFT tests messed up a few times with GPs saying it’ll include FT4 and FT3 and finding out they haven’t added them on. Some don’t even know how and inform me the TSH TFT on the blood form means it’s a full thyroid panel (it wasn’t).
Hope you get it all sorted. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in such variable experiences when I read your post.
None but that's just the NHS. Fast forward to any idiot who falls of his motorbike when speeding round bends. Next Air Ambulance and an expensive operations costing thousands
and then they are the patients just asking for a Vitamin d test. ???
The GP actually tested my Vit D a couple of years back (they wont do them now). It came back as way below the minimum at 7. I think the range started at 15. It was only when I collected my results, read them and went back to the surgery and pointed it out that anyone took any notice of them, and then advised to buy my own.
Thanks for the link about the test @SeasideSusie
