Hi I am a Practice Nurse in UK - pneumococcal vaccination is normally offered to people over 65 but there are some exceptions- your Hypo i don't think makes you eligible but if you are on some treatment for you OA that might mean you are offered. The Pnueumo jab is not live and is like the flu jab but it is for most people a 1 off jab (last your lifetime) x The idea behind it is that as you get older you are more at risk of developing a pneumonia and it gives protection, most of my patients have nil side effects just a slightly sore arm x

I have had a prescription at home for over 3 months now. I am still thinking about it as my thyroid levels have been low but I think I will have it when I get better in a few months time.

It's up to you, difficult decision. I was told that I would require another one as well, later on.

I live in France so it may by different here. Before anyone goes into hospital it's required as is all sorts of other things to help with infection rate which is so low here.

I had this before my sixtieth birthday as I was diagnosed with diabetes. The GP was totally unconcerned about hypothyroidism , osteoarthritis or any other autoimmune condition. I have flu vaccine every year and had shingles vaccine at 70. All better than contacting the illness they protect against. Had a vile gastric flu and a dose of shingles as a young woman no desire to have either again. Hopefully your vaccination will be trouble free.
