After a flu jab I had a couple of days of feeling rough (which I expected) but then I felt terrible and really hypothyroid for twelve days. I was feeling very low, needing to sleep every afternoon, unable to do any normal activities. I’ve had flu shots twice before and not experienced such a significant effect.
I have Hashimoto’s and am on NDT.
Is this an anticipated response to the vaccination for those with hypothyroidism?
Many thanks

I don’t know about hashis, I am in remission from Graves but I felt absolutely dreadful for a week after my flu vaccination this year. I had muscle pains in places I didn’t even know I had muscles, a massive headache that went on for days and I was totally exhausted - like you I was having afternoon naps and even did a couple of Covid tests but it wasn’t that and like you I have never experienced anything like that after a flu vaccination.
If so, you may have been given the adjuvanted flu vaccine which is a lot more powerful than the normal one. (Anyone over 65 will be given this vaccine).
I had several flu vaccines without any side effects before I turned 65, but the two I've had since, have really knocked me for six. It was almost like having full blown flu, and I felt really ill for about 10 days.
I know it's not very sensible as I am in a high risk group, but have decided not to have my flu jab this year.
The over 65 flu jab you mention is egg-based. I always ask for egg free as I have a food intolerance to eggs. If you say you need an egg free jab, there shouldn't be a problem getting a flu jab that is not the adjuvanted one you mention. Glad you posted, as it has reminded me about asking for egg-free for my up and coming jab.
