I had a follow up appointment today with Endrocolgy which they requested saw them last Oct. The dr was not that nice made me feel I wasted his time especially when I asked about my private cortisol test. He said these tests are dangerous and he is seeing to many people doing them. He said my Thyroid is all good and cortisol was good last time they tested. He said I'm under to many specialists and they will always find something🤷♀️ well I appreciate they found cancer cells in my womb and everything was removed. My Cuti specialist in London are trying to find out why I can't get rid of an embedded infection and they flagged up my Thyroid in Sept. I will do a yearly Thyroid check myself what can I take naturally to raise my cortisol I take vit c 1000mg a day I will up them?
Omg not good appointment : I had a follow up... - Thyroid UK
Omg not good appointment
Are you still taking propranolol
This will lower cortisol
Retested Thyroid and vitamin levels 6-8 weeks after stopping propranolol
I'm only on 1/2 of 10mg of propranolol twice a day as my blood pressure and pulse has gone low since my operation. I do find the propranolol helps the aniexty I have been having for a long while.
and it will lower cortisol
I was stuck on propranolol almost 20 years
You have to ween off incredibly slowly BECAUSE it affects adrenals
Anxiety is extremely common hypothyroid symptom
Are you currently taking any magnesium supplement
I use the Betteryou magnesuim spray as I have a fragile tummy. Was you on a high dose of propranolol at the beginning I've only been on 10mg twice a day at the beginning?
4 x 10mg per day
more on my profile
Took 6-7 months to very slowly reduce
Reducing by 5mg per day ….wait 6 weeks
Then reduce by another 5mg
Last 5mg ….cut in half down to 2.5mg
Then dropped comment one day a week
Following week stopped twice week etc
Thorne magnesium citramate doesn’t upset gut
Large capsules. You can open. Empty powder into small cup of water and drink
Try half a capsule initially
Did he elaborate on specifically which way they are dangerous?
Does he think blood cortisol is a more sensitive and reliable measurement than 24 hour saliva cortisol?
He just said he is seeing to many people doing these tests asked where I did it. Said they show up things that not of interest. He said I'd had blood cortisol and urine and they were normal though he did say in rear circumstances they do salvia testing. He really didn't make much sense then discharged me .
No he's not making sense. What things are not of interest? Why aren't they of interest?
Sounds to me like his ego was bruised by you doing a comprehensive test that showed you actually know something about your own health and what to look for thus getting ahead of him and how dare you do that.
At least you didn't pay for him, (I hope)
”these tests are of little value” roughly translates as “I don’t know how to interpret these findings and I’m intimidated by that.”
Sounds like as Alanna says his ego is bruised. Saliva shows what is free and available, blood shows what is “bound” and “total.” Similar to when we sometimes see “total T4” and “free T4” on a blood test… I suspect he just didn’t know this and felt threatened…
Results like this would warrant an early morning fasting cortisol and ACTH test and a stim test. Free cortisol - what the saliva test measures - can be measured in blood too. Unbelievable endo!
Did he measure your cortisol first thing in the morning? What as the result? Any other time of day is meaningless, unless testing for cushing's, which you obviously do not have.
I'm not medically trained.
Sorry you're struggling. x
I had blood cortisol last Oct and 24hr urine and he said all normal. I googled him and I think his the main Diabetes Dr at the clinic.
If you want to post your results, we could take a look. What time was the blood test done?
Was it this test? healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...
The answer's in the report. You might need to go private or change endo's to get a stim test. You could try one from the thyroiduk list. Apologies if you've already done that, i haven't read through all your posts yet.
If it was this test, can you also add the units please? I have some reference papers that may be of use to you but the cortisol units are important.
And of course if you have the urine test please post.
Adrenal insufficiency can also cause all the symptoms you describe - weight loss, trembling, adrenaline attacks, low bp, dizziness, etc. nhs.uk/conditions/addisons-...
