Iron blood test results

Please see below results. Would appreciate some advice. I have changed the brand of iron supplement I am taking, as I was struggling to raise my levels previously. Now take 2x Thorne Gentle Iron on alternate days.

Inflammation

CRP HS 4.21 mg/L (Range: 0 - 5) *see note below

Iron Status

Iron 24.8 umol/L (Range: 5.8 - 34.5) - this has come up considerably from 10 from my last test

TIBC 51.2 umol/L (Range: 45 - 81) - up from 42 at last test

UIBC 26.4 umol/L (Range: 24.2 - 70.1) - this is down from 33 at last test

Transferrin Saturation 48.4 % (Range: 20 - 50) - this has come up from 23.2

Ferritin 121.0 ug/L (Range: 13 - 150) - up from 71 at last test

* My inflammation levels are unusually high. I had a lot of back/neck pain and headaches around the time of the test, which has now been sorted, but could this have caused the high levels of inflammation or not?

Would appreciate some advice on the above...have got some notes as to ranges and what iron results mean, but can't make head or tail if them now!!

MT in advance 😊

Molly161018,

Whether ferritin was artificially raised or not, the remaining results all indicate great improvements and that you are heading in the right direction.

Serum iron is 66% through range and although isn't always a reliable marker, the transferrin transporters have also raised indicating these iron levels are constant. T/S% at 48.4 shows good saturation and is in line with other results.

Keep doing whatever you are doing as members often have to work to retain good iron levels, that can fall back quickly if supply isn't consistent.
