antibiotics and Levothyroxine

hi there,

Does anyone know if it’s ok to take antibiotics at the same time as Levothyroxine? I have to take antibiotics 4 times a day for 7 days. They need to be taken on an empty stomach. Today I took my Levothyroxine (I take it now all in one go in the morning), then I waited an hour before taking an antibiotic and then waiting another hour before having breakfast. Antibiotics need to taken either one hour before or two hours after food.

It’s fine to do what I did today at the weekend but it won’t be workable when im working next week. Im wondering if I can take my first antibiotic of the day with my Levothyroxine. Does anyone know?

Levo should be taken by itself . You can take levo at any time of day so I would move your levo away from food and meds.

Thank you Lalatoot, this may be why I’m feeling more hypo today. How many hours do you think I should leave between Levothyroxine and an antibiotic? 4?

At least 2 at a guess. You won't fee at your best anyway as your body is using its resources to fight an infection so thyroid hormones will be out anyway but no point in making it worse.

Hello again, I just replied about your daughter😀.

I recently had to take clindamycin and metronidazole and it has knocked me for six.

Antibiotics seemingly can affect b12 a lot (according to members of Pernicious Anemia health unlocked group where there has been discussion recently).

So if your b12 is low at this time or at last test date, you might want to up it for a while.
