Nee post with results as requested

November 2022

TSH 4.7 marked as borderline levo upped to 75

B12 194 marked normal but to take 50 mcg tablets 2x day

Ferritin 53

Folate 3.4

March 2023 (new drs )

TSH 3.5 marked as normal? (Worse than last result but marked normal?)

B12 348

Ferritin not done

Folate 4.4 raised slightly

my B12 has improved so I must be absorbing something.

But yesterday I felt shocking and was at work. I felt like my battery had drained and my brain just fused I just felt like an emotional wreck made me quite anxious. Tinnitus was off the scale

I’m post menopausal 10 years since last period

Hopefully can get this across to the dr that I still feel unwell.

also I’m going to get the private test that includes T3

Thank you for all your kind replies. It helps a lot ❤️

We always need reference ranges that come with your results please  Teag this is because ranges vary from lab to lab so we can't interpret results without them.

Your TSH is obviously high and suggests that you need a dose increase as it's always recommended that TSH be below 2, see pinned post

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Also, TSH alone is inadequate, you also need FT4/FT3 to show full thyroid status as these are the thyroid hormones, TSH is a pituitary hormone which rises when thyroid hormones are low.

Are you taking B Complex as well as B12? B Complex is needed when taking B12 to keep all B vitamins balanced.

No Vit D?

Thank you. No problem I will check

I’m not taking B complex I will look into this.

I didn’t request vit D. But I’ve been taking vit D 3 4000 IU spray.

I’ve just ordered a private full thyroid test the one recommended on here. I’ve never had a full test. Although I was told I had antibodies.

TSH 3.5

B12 348

Folate 4.4

On levothyroxine the aim is to increase dose slowly upwards in 25mcg steps until TSH is always below 2 and Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range

TSH shows you need next dose increase to 100mcg daily

Retest in 6-8 weeks

Suggest you use your private test then …..unless you can’t get dose increase agreed by GP ….

Exactly what B12. supplement are you taking

Are you also taking daily vitamin B complex, if not need to start doing so

thank you again

I’m taking a b12 tablet prescribed by the dr cyanocobalamin

Dr does not test anything other than tsh so I have ordered private test.

Yes I’m sure he will put it up to 100.x

So assuming he will increase to 100mcg , save your private test for 6-8 weeks after increasing dose

Always test early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Suggest you try the B12 drops instead and add separate vitamin B complex

Low B12 symptoms

b12deficiency.info/signs-an...

methyl-life.com/blogs/defic...

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement and add a separate vitamin B Complex

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

B12 drops highly effective

Or

B12 sublingual lozenges

B12 range in U.K. is too wide

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

healthline.com/nutrition/fo...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid.

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)

Thorne currently difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

Other options

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement and continue separate B12

thank you.

I will have a good read through this.

The dr has prescribed the b 12. So can I take something alongside it.

Strange but I did used to have b12 injection s with the drs but that sopped as they said my levels were good that was a few years ago. I am on a b12 info site who say injections should be for life.

Thank you again x

If you tested positive for Pernicious Anaemia, yes injections should be for life

If you had low B12 due to being hypothyroid or vegetarian then daily supplement likely sufficient

Your B12 is low considering you’re taking B12 daily

Try the B12 drops, they are absorbed in mouth, not gut. Frequently give excellent results

Suggest you could also ask advice on PAS Healthunlocked about injections
