blood results again!

I had my bloods done via Medichecks on the last week of January and the results came on 01/02/23 which I posted on the forum. I was prescribed 125mg but was secretly alternating 125/150mg and the results weren’t good.

TSH - 0.005 (0.27 - 4.2)

T3 - 7.26 (3.1 -6.8)

T4 - 25.9 (12 - 22)

After the discussion on the forum, I reverted back to 125mg a day. When I went to collect my prescription a few days later, I was told the doctor had stopped it as I should be reviewed since she wasn’t happy with my results in October due to suppressed TSH.

October results:

TSH - 0.01 (0.35 - 4.94)

T3 - 3.72 ( 2.43 - 6.01)

T4 - 10.4 (9.0 - 19.0)

I know my TSH was suppressed but I wasn’t feeling very well so I secretly increased and was doing 125/150 but clearly it went over so after the Medichecks result I went back to 125mg. I even stopped taking my medication for four days as I thought I was overmedicated.

I had to have my bloods again to get my prescription, a part of me felt scared because I thought Medichecks had shared my results with my GP and that’s why my prescription had been stopped. My new blood were done on 23/02/23 and these are the results:

TSH: 0.01 (0.35 - 4.94)

T3 - 4.11 (2.43 - 6.01)

T4 - 11.4 (9.00 - 19.00)

My GP has changed my prescription to 100/125mg because everything is fine except my TSH. There is such a huge difference from my Medicheck results to the most recent ones. What should I do, I am alternating between 100/125 for the last two days but today after collecting my results, I’m not sure whether it is the right thing to do. I was feeling okay after reverting to the 125mg a day.

it sounds like a lot of changing in a short space of time. Things take weeks to smooth out.

Probably best to stick to one dose, same brand, taken same way (consistent timing/spaced from other meds/vits etc) for 8 weeks and re-test.

TSH is slow to respond to changes, ideally look at your T3 as the main guide. Did you feel most well on 125? Was 100 a bit low?

It might be your sweet spot is somewhere in between.

Hope you find a good balance x

Testing too soon after reducing Levo to 125mcg won’t have given TSH time to respond

Do you have enough levothyroxine to remain on 125mcg daily for 6-8 weeks and then retest

Showed low folate and you’re now on daily B complex

Have you started trial on gluten free diet

Important to always get same brand levothyroxine too.

suggest you explain to GP and request you remain on 125mcg for 3 months and retest

If Ft4 or Ft3 levels are too high after next test ……unlikely ….then consider reducing further

I can't help I'm afraid but I just wanted to comment that I have had similar issues with Medichecks results via NHS results in the last couple of months. Like you, my TSH and T3 seem consistent across the labs but my T4 shows a huge variance - with 29.9 being recorded by Medicahecks and 17.7 by my local NHS lab within a couple of days of each other. My history suggests the NHS one is more accurate but this variance is not good and I've lost all confidence in the Medichecks lab to be honest.
