Hi everyone, has anyone felt better taking a liquid or capsule form of Levothyroxine rather than the tablet. In U.K. thanks xxx
liquid thyroxine: Hi everyone, has anyone felt... - Thyroid UK
liquid thyroxine
That would depend on the reason you might switch to liquid Levo. If you are intolerant to any of the fillers in the tablet that is not contained in the liquid then yes you do and I have felt better for the switch. If it is because you are under replaced on Levo then it won't make a difference.
Can I ask why you think it may help you?
Do you have recent blood results with ranges you can share with us here? Sometimes a dose adjustment might help. That and/or getting vitamins optimal - ferritin, folate, B12 & D3.
hi Thankyou for your reply , I’m so glad to hear you felt better changing. I don’t have any recent blood tests , I’m feeling 50% better- not bed ridden, however I feel I may have problems absorbing the tablets, I do suffer with intolerances and digestive issues , diarrhoea or constipation, I just wondered if people get better on a different form x
Switching to liquid wasn't the full answer for me but it did aleviate the symptoms of lactose intolrance I had from the tablets. I'm now back here adding T3 having got the key vitamins to OPTIMAL levels. Many people find this is key in feeling well and getting thyroid hormone working properly and would be worthwhile either getting your GP to check these or paying for a private test which many do here. You can then post your results so people can comment.
One thing about liquid Levo is it is expensive and some GPs can be reluctant to prescribe it for this reason.
No capsule forms are approved in the UK.
My medicines document lists what is approved. At present there are severe supply issues with supplies of levothyroxine oral solutions.
I definitely feel better on Oral (liquid) levothyroxine. Just recently there has been a National stock out of it in any brand or strength. I had to switch to tablet form for 2 months. Oh boy I ended up in a mess. My TSH shot up and T4 went under range. My balance was terrible. I put on weight and had brain fog. I’ve managed to get more liquid last week. Immediately I felt a difference. I guess I mustn’t be able to absorb tablet form very well? Liquid is up to 40% more absorption I’ve recently discovered.
oh wow I’m so excited you have get a difference! This is so great and gives me hope. I’ve been into the pharmacy this morning and they have given me a few brands they can get of oral solution, so I’m going to have a body see which one might be best. If you don’t mind me asking I’d like to know what brand you take x
I prefer Wockhardt brand but there’s none available right now. I recently tried Brillpharma but that was only for one week. Then I could only get Zentiva. Both seem ok to be honest. I’ve also switched the time I take it from during the day to going to bed. Going to bed seems to be working fine. But I won’t know how well until I do my next bloods on 21st Feb.
For the first time (after yet another visit to A&E) it has been mentioned to me that “some people just can’t tolerate thyroid medication”, it has occurred to me that I might have to consider liquid levo. I don’t think I am ‘allergic’ as such, just can’t seem to move above 100mcg without further debilitating symptoms. AND I have enough of those already! If you change let us know on the forum. I for one would be very interested. I very much like your description “50% better - not bedridden”. That’s pretty much how I feel. Frankly I was able to ‘help’ myself better when I was struggling with it undiagnosed - my thoughts at the moment!
