Liquid Thyroxine : Is anyone out there using this... - Thyroid UK
Liquid Thyroxine
If you need this because you are allergic to the fillers in the tablets then you should be able to get it on the NHS. Are you currently on a private prescription?
Pig4u, if you need liquid T4 because of intolerance to fillers you ought to be prescribed it on the NHS.

I am on a private prescription from an extremely caring private Dr.
Having felt iller and iller on tablet T4 and then Armour she suggested the Liquid but although I am much improved my own NHS Dr has persisted in trying to get a NHS prescription without success. I have so far paid out over £1000 and it's becoming a struggle .It seems so unfair when I have never been to the Dr for the first 65 years of my life.
What should be my next step? I have been through all the Endos in my health district.
Pig4u,
NHS GPs are able to prescribe non UK meds on a named patient basis explained in the link I provided above. If thelocal CCG has barred GPs from prescribing certain meds write and explain your intolerance to Levothyroxine and Armour due to the fillers and ask why, despite your GP's willingness to prescribe liquid T4 s/he is unable to do so. Copy your MP on the letter.
Maybe make an appointment to see your local MP. I agree, this seems very unjust.
Hello Pig4u
I have recently been given a trial of liquid T4, I must say it wasn't easy. I did have to ask for it and the endo commented on how expensive it was but finally agreed. Got the prescription written out and apparently it had to be authorized by the Practice Manager - So long and the short of It - I have had this trial on the NHS - not sure if I will continue to be prescribed it on the NHS.
Have you asked you GP why you have to pay
Best wishes
Thank you Kitten Whiskers . My difficulty is that the Liquid was privately
Prescribed by a Dr I was sent to by my NHS GP for CBT to help the anxiety caused by 8years of unresolved Hypothyroidism .Seeing how much better it was for me following real misery on T4 and then Armour my NHS Dr. Did his best to get a NHS prescription for me but no joy. I have now written a begging letter to the last Endo I saw .He put me on Armour but when he said I was well now because my wretched " numbers " were correct and I said I felt worse than ever he sent me away and said it was "in my " mind"! If I ever receive a reply I expect it to be a refusal although it would be " no skin off his nose" as they say !
If your doctor is supportive it might well be worth getting hold of Louise Warville's list of 'good' Endos, and getting a referral to one of those. I'm afraid I don't know where the list is kept. But you could message Louise for it
I don't suppose you feel like adding another battle to your list - but you really ought to report that Endo. That is a disgraceful way to treat a patient. And all too common. They see sick thyroid patients, they make them worse, then they send them away telling them it's all in their minds, or they eat too much, or they're depressed. It violates the most basic medical rule: "first do no harm".
Hello Pig4u,
I can imagine a private prescription is costing a lot of money. I do understand where you are coming from I tried lots of other forms of Thyroid meds and they were terrible but yet my blood tests were "in range" In the end I moved back to my old surgery and began making a fuss (which I have never done before) then they started to listen a little.
Only thing I could suggest is having a word with you doctor to refer you to an NHS endo and he/she could prescribe the liquid T4. If the treatment is working they can't deny you treatment.
Good luck & keep fighting x
