Patients are usually put on liquid meds if they have allergies to all the tablet brands. Does this sound like you? It's not given very often as I understand it's very expensive. I would say going from one brand to another there can be a slight potency issue and I can't see liquid being any different. After you have been on it for 6 weeks then I would retest to check your levels to see if you now need the dose adjusting.
I’m not sure what’s happened to me to be honest nor does my Endocrinologist. I was on Levothyroxine for 11 years with lots of issues. This year I can’t even take it now or I end up on the floor.
So we are going to try the liquid format. I have been on NDT for 5 months but that’s not working for me either. Endocrinologist says NDT is not physiological.
I live in Italy and was diagnosed earlier last year. I was prescribed liquid levothyroxine right from the start and am now on 100mcg. Although more expensive It is considered to be easier to be processed in the body, as most of it is absorbed through the mucus membranes in the mouth and so doesn’t depend much on the gut, so you are more likely get a proper, consistent dose. My brand is tirosint .
Thank you so much for your valuable input. I don’t know anything about liquid thyroxine only I heard it can be expensive.
I’ve now learned from you about the gut issue. Maybe I have a gut issue I’m not sure. I was on tablet form for 11 years with lots of issues, the past year I cannot take the tablets or I’m on the floor with weakness. I do hope the liquid proves to be good for me.
Transferring to liquid may well mean that the potency of the same dose of T4 compared with tablets will be higher. Thus you may well need to take less liquid T4 to achieve the same effects.
Thank you for letting me know that. I hope I get better on this liquid medication. I haven’t got it yet. Just waiting to collect prescription and then to collect medication from chemist. I’m a little apprehensive to be honest. As I’ve had a terrible time on Levothyroxine tablets this year and for many years but this year by far the worst.
Thank you again for your support it’s really appreciated 👍 x
Just a thought! Are your vitamins etc optimal! It's documented that they help the Thyroid to work better and also some people struggle with taking T3 without them being in place. I know it's not a straight comparison but anything that helps your thyroid work better can't be a bad thing. So if you haven't had Vit D, B12, folate and ferritin tested and got them optimal, not just in range then that may help. SeasideSusie has lots of advice on what is optimal and how to achieve it if you search her posts. The nature of the beast reduces our vitamin levels!
Hi. Yes, I’ve had all my vitamins checked. My B12 was very low, now it is very high with loading. My folate was low now it’s high also. My ferritin was very low I’m currently on iron tablets with vit C. Also my vit D has no problems as it was 95 without any supplement or bring in the sun.
I agree all vitamins need to be at the top of the ranges. It’s my aim to keep them all there now that I have realised last year.
Hi. Thank you. I didn’t realise it’s hard to get it prescribed. My private Endocrinologist requested I trial it via my GP who wrote out the prescription yesterday. I’m not sure if it’s the fillers giving me my terrible symptoms. I’m willing to try anything to get better. We just want to rule out or rule in the fillers.
I’m really hoping this works. Now just to transition from NDT to liquid Levothyroxine I hope there’s no problems.
