My rheumatologist wanted blood tests because of my osteoarthritis. My TSH was high at 6.17 mU/L level 0.300-4.70, FT4 was 1.34 ng/dL level 0.70-1.80. My glucose was 228 Level 70-110 so she has requested another blood test due to the glucose being so high.

My question is do I wait to see her or should I take the results to my doctor. I am seeing the rheumatologist in March. I have had my thyroid problem since 1992 and I have an appointment with the thyroid specialist as now have atrial fibrillation which supposedly is caused by my thyroid.

Hi Sam1411

your previous post in November has TSH at 2 ish ..... it has now risen to 6 and this would suggest that your dose of Levothyroxine is too low .. so yes, you should show this result to your Doctor.

How soon is your appointment with the thyroid specialist ?

Strongly recommend you get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done

What dose levothyroxine are you currently taking

Any other medication changes that might have affected thyroid levels

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Do you have autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s, usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes antibodies, cortisol and vitamins

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Watch out for postal strikes, probably want to pay for guaranteed 24 hours delivery

I am going to ask for full blood tests when I see the doctor but unfortunately I live in Spain and they do not do all the tests I used to have in England but will see what happens. I am on so many tablets for my Atrial Fibrillation, caused by thyroid apparently, and my osteoarthritis that I should rattle when I walk. I have been on them for over a year. I understand about what to do before a blood test as I have had a thyroid problem for over 30 years. I do not take any supplements. I went into heart failure originally because they kept putting my symptoms down to stress!! Anyway found out I had over active thyroid and had radioactive treatment and given thyroxine which after 6 months of changing the dosage found the correct one and I was fine until about 5 years ago when my thyroid levels were up and down and I started getting severe palpitations and they put me on Beta blockers, then in 2021 was diagnosed with the Afib. Have seen a specialist once in the past 17 years because in Spain if your results are within the “normal” range the doctors will not refer you and even though my a fib is caused by my thyroid I still haven’t seen a specialist only a cardiologist.
