I’m hoping someone is able/willing to give me some of the actual prices for armour when going through a private doctor here in the uk.
I’m currently buying my Armour online and by the time postage and customs charges are on, it works out around £190 for 100 x 1g. When I started buying it from the same place, only a couple of years ago it was closer to £130.
So, my big question is whether it would be cheaper now to find a doctor willing to give me a private prescription and then pay at the pharmacy for the armour. I have absolutely no idea of the costs for this route.
Thanks

Why not ring round a few pharmacies and ask?
Here is ThyroidUK's list of pharmacies who will dispense NDT with private prescription:
Well, you'd have to factor in the cost of a consultation with the endo and the cost of a private prescription on top of the cost of buying the Armour so possibly not as simple as just knowing how much X pharmacy charges for Armour.
I very much doubt it would be cheaper to go via the private prescription route. As SeasideSusie says, there's the cost of endo consultations to add to the medication cost.
Depending on the dose you take, maybe purchasing higher dose pills and cutting them up would give a cost saving. e.g. 2 grain pills to cut in half for one grain etc.
I mention this only because I recently realised something about those pesky powdery pills—it works better to break them in half with your fingers. Completely agree that cutting them just gives you a pile of something you could probably snort with a straw… (definitely don’t try that 😂😂).
I was prescribed Armour Thyroid 2 months ago and so called all labs in the above list to find the lowest price. It was still expensive but “Roseway Labs” was the least costly option at the time. This is not accounting for your endo consultation fee of course, but I hope this helps you some.
thank you beau55. Would you mind sharing how much the consultation and prescribing cost? That’s the part that will make the difference. No worries if you’d rather not.
