Is NDT or T3 Cheaper or Easier To Source

Sparklingsunshine profile image

Hi

This is just a general question,I'm not asking for suppliers or specific prices.I'm using self sourced NDT presently.I bought it a few years ago and my recent bloods were so much better than on T4 only.

I'm thinking about the future and wondered which is the cheaper option if I decide to continue. I think I definitely need to replace Levo or at least add T3. I don't think I stand a hope of getting it on NHS.

At present, there are more makes of T3 in the UK alone (6) than of desiccated thyroid in the entire world (4). (So far as I have been able to find. I am meaning prescription-quality with declared potency. And ignoring the offerings of some "compounding pharmacies".)

Increasing numbers are prescribed T3 on NHS

Some CCG areas are worse than others

59,000 prescriptions in England this year. That’s typically 6 prescriptions per person per year

Only tiny number of NHS NDT prescriptions

Hi

I was thinking of self sourcing rather than getting it prescribed. I was curious about the price of T3 vs NDT.

Personally I would always explore getting it prescribed as first option…..privately or NHS

Something you need everyday for the rest of your life ….

if you can get prescribed then there’s much less supply worry or if needed to go into hospital or travelling abroad…etc

But I realise many people are not able to get to see the right endocrinologist to get prescribed

Hi

That's really useful, thanks very much.
