hairloss tips

I am looking for help with my hairloss. I increased levo from 50 to 75 and the hairloss was better. I had a stressful day yesterday and today my hair is falling out a lot again. I’m a bit scared. I read here that iron levels are very important. What other things are helping to stop hairloss? (I have a blood checkup in 2 days)

Hi

As well as thyroid levels, iron status, folate and Vitamin D levels need to be optimal. These ca affect hair loss especially iron. And female hormones like oestrogen and progesterone play an important role as well.

Not eating enough calories especially from protein can make hair loss worse and stress is a huge red flag. Many people with persistent hairloss can identify that a very stressful period in their life triggered it.

You can't remove stress from your life, you can only change how it affects you. Maybe trying things like meditation, breathing exercises, going for a walk, having a massage making time to relax and wind down , some "me" time would help.

It takes 3-6 months for your body to adapt to each dose increase in levothyroxine

Likely to need further increase in levothyroxine over coming months

Always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

When were vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 levels last tested

Vitamin deficiencies that lead to hair loss:

particularly the part where it says:

According to some experts, ferritin levels of at least 40 ng/ml are required to stop hair loss, while levels of at least 70 ng/ml are needed for hair regrowth. The optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is between 90-110 ng/ml.

Unexplained hair loss can be due to another autoimmune disease called Alopecia Areata. I have it and also have hypothyroidism plus a couple of other autoimmune diseases.

Androgenetic alopecia is also an autoimmune disease
