Hi Pen1966 2/3 weeks is too soon to test to see the effect of the new dose on TSH /fT4 / fT3 levels. Blood levels will be all over the place for the first few weeks after a change in dose. then they will settle to whatever they are going to be.
You need to be on the new dose for at least 6 weeks and then test.
All three levels may well look different when they are settled to what they are on this test.
p.s .. also it is not unusual to feel rubbish for the first few weeks on a new dose as the body adjusts itself .. it takes time to settle so don't panic yet .
if i increase dose i have usually found the first 2/3 weeks feel a bit overmedicated , headaches , etc but then i start to feel better after that point as i get used to it .
if decreasing i seem to find the first 4/5 weeks feel undermedicated , constipated etc. but then things improve slowly .
So i now basically try to ignore any symptoms for the first 4/5 weeks and start to pay attention from 5/6 weeks onwards...... if the dose change was the right thing to do then from week 5/6 onwards i expect things to slowly improve ... if the dose change was wrong then i would expect to continue to feel rubbish /get worse after the 5/6 week point .
Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B Right are recommended options that contains folate, but both are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule)
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a B12 supplement as well as a B Complex (to balance all the B vitamins) initially for first 2-4 months.
Once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency
Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet
Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption
This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.
Thyroid disease is as much about optimising vitamins as thyroid hormones
I’d say you’re on too much Levothyroxine as it’s over the level. If my T4 ever goes over I suffer with weakness especially in my legs. Could you drop your T4 Levothyroxine intake very slightly to bring it just within the level. And then see if you improve.
As you only changed your meds 2 weeks ago, I would not change anything till you’ve allowed 6-8 weeks for this to settle and reviewed it again. Like tattybogle says, it’s not at all unusual to feel rubbish for some weeks after a dose change. I know I do.
SlowDragon ’s advice on folate etc is also well worth following.
