Good Evening, is anyone able to recommend a good brand of Magnesium Malate please? An idea of a reasonable daily dosage would be most helpful too as there are various size tablets. Thank you very much Ann

I haven't used magnesium malate so can't recommend a particular one from experience.

What you need to look for is the amount of "elemental magnesium". I've just looked to see what's on offer at Amazon and it's quite misleading, for example (and these are not recommendations, I'm just pointing out something)

This one says

Magnesium Malate Capsules (420 Count) - 1,500mg Per Serving (Magnesium Bonded to Malic Acid),

and when you read the label on the back the "amount per serving" tells you

Providing 225mg Elemental Magnesium

amazon.co.uk/Magnesium-Mala...?

..

Yet this one tells you on the front label the amount of elemental magnesium

amazon.co.uk/Foods-Magnesiu...?

..

The usual recommended amount of elemental magnesium is 350-450mg.

You have to decide whether or not you are happy to have fillers in your supplement or prefer one with none or very few.

So lots to check out when looking for your supplement.

Hello SeasideSusie, thank you so very much for all of your help. I realise just how long that will have taken you. It is difficult! I had been looking on Amazon and was just so confused and "they are all going to be the best" aren't they!? Then I looked at Holland & Barratt but they are not impressive at all! I guess I will have to go with one and see if it helps me. It will be better than not taking it. Some of the fillers are gluten free/vegetarian etc. You have been kind enough to give me the dosage and if I get that correct, it will be a jolly good start. I appreciate that you have many posts to read and reply to, most kind of you to take the time. Ann

Let me know if you find a good one! The one I bought needs me to take 3 massive tablets a day to get a daily dose - no idea why they can’t make a one a day tablet!

Good Morning, will do! I am not good with big tablets at all. :)

This is powder form and claims to be 200mg of elemental/scoop, no fillers and 300 servings/tub at one scoop/day. At £25 a tub seems too good to be true but worth checking out and scrutinising the label

Let me know how it is. The one I bought is very powdery and doesn’t dissolve well so not that nice to take.

Hi

I won’t be taking it as I’m happy with glycinate and citrate. I just sent it as you said you don’t get on with the tablets

My citrate is a powder which I dissolve in warm water. It’s perfectly fine. Some prefer to add a juice of some kind

Maybe i should try warm water.

Noelnoel profile image
Noelnoel in reply to JAmanda

Give it go and perhaps let it stand if you’ve still got powder floating or whisk it a bit with a fork

You probably shouldn’t have to do all that but it’d be a shame to waste it. Maybe next time you can try the other one

JAmanda in reply to Noelnoel

Tried it but it didn’t work. The back of the container says mix with water and stir till thoroughly dissolved! Nothing works. Ah we’ll live and learn.

If the warm water suggestion doesn’t work, I don’t know what will

What’s the brand? Worth knowing so that it can be avoided

Hi Noelnoel, I thought I would just say that I have ordered this from Vitamin Express. It does seem to be good but I will see. To be honest, some of their other products look ok too. Might be worth bearing them in mind for the future - thank you for your finding it. Annie x

Have you decided on malate for a particular reason

sadiethedog1 in reply to Noelnoel

Good Morning Noelnoel, I decided on Malate because it helps with energy levels, body/muscle aches, stress and also it can improve your sleep. I hope that helps. I am yet to find the right one and there are so many to read up about! Best wishes, Annie

Hi sadie

I already take glycinate and citrate which I’m happy with

If you look at my reply to amanda you’ll see a link for magnesium malate. I’ve never used it so can’t recommend it as such but it seems to tick a few boxes

I have been using Nature's Life Magnesium Malate. Each tablet has 200 mg of elemental magnesium which is much better than the others I have found.

Amazon do have it but I order the larger size from the second link, which works out much cheaper, even coming from the US.

Hi Guineapiggy, thank you very much for that! I have "put it in my basket" to save for next time. I will see how I get on with the other one that I have ordered but this looks very interesting. Are the tablets very big please? I do have a bit of trouble trying to swallow large tablets :) thank you again - Annie x

I suppose they are quite large, about 23mm long, 10mm wide and 9mm thick. They have a smooth coating so don't stick in the throat.
