Good Endo in Bristol prescribing T3

Hi does anyone know of any Endo’s in Bristol or surrounding areas that are prescribing T3. Ever since I’ve been taken off T3 my health has steadily deteriorated. My US Endo is insistent I need T3 but unfortunately in Bristol UK I am told it’s not necessary but my health says otherwise.

Also ever since my GP recently lowered my Thyroxine dose from 150 to 75 my health has gone completely off the rails the last 7 months. I suffer from extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, never ending periods (currently on 3 months), anemia (probably due the the long periods), high weight gain, brain fog, the list just goes on and on

I desperately need a good Endo that can prescribe T3 and also look at my current T4 situation.

If you have a list on Consultants then please do send to me.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum

BEFORE booking any consultation, suggest you get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done

Is your hypothyroidism autoimmune

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Many people find different brands are not interchangeable

Many people don’t get on with Teva brand, Teva is only brand that makes 75mcg tablets

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 plus both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Low vitamin levels are extremely common, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease (Hashimoto’s or Ord’s thyroiditis) usually diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

Or if under medicated, especially after dose reduction

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hello Seethelight and welcome to the forum :

Are you now resident in the UK ?

If you were stable of your US medication could you arrange for it to be shipped over ?

If you are here longer term and want treatment through the NHS you will need your doctor to refer you to an endocrinologist and suggest you get a letter from your US doctor detailing your medical need for this T3/T4 combo - it may or may not help you but can't hurt the cause.

Currently T3 prescribing in the UK is a post code lottery and especially obtaining a new patient prescription for T3 on NHS a challenge.

In some parts of the country existing T3 patients are still being encouraged to ' do without ' not because of a medical blood test but because of the cost of T3 - Liothyronine.

If you go into openprescibing.net. and the ' analyse ' you can see by surgery and or CCG area how ' active ' your surgery are in actually writing T3 prescriptions.

There are people on here who source their own thyroid hormone replacement as they too were met with that same brick wall the NHS built some years ago by blacklisting T3 due to costs - ( though other providers of T3 were available at much cheaper prices ) :

I self medicate with NDT so am not aware of reliable sources, for T3 but they are there and if you know your dose that needs reinstating this may be just another option you might like to consider and you simply start another post again asking forum members to PM you for reliable sources of T3 / T4 medication.
