If I were to find a good Endo could they potenially prescribe NDT or t3 and then I buy it myself?

Hi all, sorry to be so ignorant to how this works. I am desperate to try something other than levo so I'm wondering if I were to find a good Endo could they potentially prescribe me NDT or t3 and then I buy it myself? Are there more legitimate places to buy these from if I have a prescription as I am a but reluctant to buy from some of the t3 websites I have seen through fear they are not genuine? And if so has anyone seen a good nhs or private Endo that is willing to do this? I am based in the midlands but willing to travel anywhere. Thank you all so much in advance.

Some private endos are happy to give a private prescription for T3, and maybe NDT.

If you send for the list of thyroid friendly endos from Dionne

tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

you could then ask on the forum for feedback and if anyone knows whether they are willing to prescribe T3 or NDT.

I see a good private Endocrinologist & he costs £130 - he doesn’t charge me any extra for the prescription ( I get from a UK pharmacy) he asks my NHS GP to do my bloods - as I’m self paying - I just paid £70 for 2 months supply of Nature Throid ( 1 grain x 3 a day ) I’m sooo 🕺🏻much better than when on Levothyroxine- but still have some thyroid days 😩it’s a work in progress - I also am on AIP protocol as much as humanly possible !

I lost 3 stone doing the Amy Myers Protocol -

I also take lots of supplements & it is an expensive disease in my experience - you’re welcome to DM me If you like ? Or follow me on Twitter ? @julesserkin where I often tweet about my thyroid issues

Many people on this forum buy NDT or T3 from overseas suppliers.

I know that T3 can be bought cheaply for about £10 for 100 tablets of 25mcg. The supplier can buy these for less than 2 euros. At this price it would be crazy for someone to make a fake version and package them etc.

Do however use a supplier recommended by others on the forum.

Hi Hugh, I have been sent a few recommendations of places to source them from, but one I know was a fake website, where people are trying to steal bank details and the other I am not 100% sure of whether it is legitimate. Do you source them yourself? Would you mind PMing me with the details of where you get them from please?

Thank you so much!!

I don’t understand what is T3 ? As I know Nature Throid is T3 & T4 ? So if someone bough T3 for example - would they also need to buy T4 separately? I did once buy from overseas but still had to pay an import tax - seems crazy for one individual to pay tax on an essential medicine ? Surely the Government should sort out a reprieve for an individual? 🤔

Natural thyroid, mainly from pigs, is mainly T4 but has some T3 and some people find it better than just T4.

T3 is the active hormone which controls every cell in the body. T4 needs converted to T3 to become active, so if the body has sufficient T3 it does not need T4. Some people have problems with this conversion and do better on just T3.

If buying from within the European union there is no import tax. If outside this area there can be a tax, equivalent to VAT plus a charge from the Post Office for collecting the tax. For low value orders it is rarely charged.

If you see a private endo and they give you a prescription I would think, like mine, they would let you know where to send the prescription to get the medication.

Yes agreed & there is a must of UK pharmacies on the Thyroid .org website ( the 2 pharmacies I have been using are on that list ) they are both very good & quick - but it’s expensive of course - my local chemist wouldn’t do it !

UK pharmaceutical companies are crooks. There are lots of great people campaigning to get it sorted. I read all about it on his forum. Amazing group of people.
