Supportive endo in Bristol please
Welcome to the forum, Katyan.
Who stopped your T3 and what reason did they give for withdrawing it? Was Levothyroxine dose increased to compensate and have you had thyroid levels checked since to make sure you are optimally dosed?
Email louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org for a list of member recommended endos.
Thanks endo stopped my T3 saying there was insufficient evidence that it would help me. Levothyroxine dose kept the same, 175mcg levothyroxine. Result below on just 175mcg levothyroxine is
TSH 0.02 (0.2 - 4.2)
Free T4 20.5 (12 - 22)
Free T3 4.0 (3.1 - 6.8)
Katyan,
TSH is low and FT4 is high but FT3 is low in range indicating poor conversion. Did you feel better with T3?
Thanks yes I felt better with T3 added, the endo said that wasn't proof enough for me to continue on it.
Katyan,
Patient feels better but that's insufficient proof. What a blinkered plonker!
How much T3 were you prescribed?
I was prescribed 5mcg T3 to take twice a day but I found it easier and better to take 10mcg instead of halving it.
Katyan,
You can buy T3 without prescription but it will be in 25mcg doses. If you buy a pillcutter you can cut it into quarters and take 6.25mcg or 12.5mcg.
Yes my maths is wrong, was never any good at it. Thanks
Your math wasn’t wrong 😊 Clutter was just explaining than if you buy it yourself as 25mg pills you may need to slightly increase your dose from 10 to 12.5 , since realistically you can only split the pill in half. If you quarter the 25 mg pill you could take 2 5.75 doses which would surely be just fine.
Endos at Spire and BRI are unlikely to give you T3 as they don't see any benefit !
It would be immensely satisfying if these endo's who are so convinced T3 is unnecessary could just, for a week or a month, walk in our shoes.
Then they would soon change their b.....y minds about wether there was any benefit taking T3 or not
