Doctor's Best D3 softgels, very small softgel, easy to swallow, no added ingredients just D3 and extra virgin olive oil to aid absorption, budget friendly.

Before purchasing come back with your result for suggestion of dose to take and details of important cofactors needed when taking D3.

Vitamin D deficiency is common with UAT or hashimotos. Your GP should prescribe you the supplement, as supermarket ones are poor normally.

You need to know the actual result

You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.

The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results

UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.

In reality many GP surgeries do not have blood test results online yet

Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.

Important to see exactly what has been tested and equally important what hasn’t been tested yet

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested.

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Especially as you have Hashimoto’s

Has GP also tested folate, ferritin and B12

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

For a Dr to say it's low it must be VERY low - so you may need loading doses. You can read all the good information available on this forum by typing VitD inti the Search Box or going to

Would agree with Marz

For GP to contact you to say vitamin D is low it’s likely to be around or under 25nmol and if under 25nmol GP should prescribe loading dose

Thats 300,000iu in total over 6-8 weeks

Equivalent of 5000iu per day for 8 weeks

Email GP surgery for result

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

ouh.nhs.uk/osteoporosis/use...

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol, Some CCG areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7. One spray = 1000iu

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

Low vitamin D linked to thyroid not being adequately treated, are you still only on 75mcg levothyroxine

Get B12 and folate levels tested by GP

Personally I would wait until you come back from holiday and speak to or see your doctor. When my D tests came back below range the Dr gave me vitamin D on prescription . I was taking 60,000 units of D3 a week until my levels improved .. I now take 5000 units a day.

I have taken H&B vit D for the last 20 years, doubling the dose in winter so I was shocked to learn I was below range.
