Thyroid-S

I had to switch to Thyroid S 3.5 months ago because I can't source my usual NDT anymore.

I felt terrible immediately. Fatigue much worse. I was hoping by now that I would be feeling better but no. I am in danger of losing my job as it is affecting me so badly.

Has anyone else felt the same on Thyroid-S? I'm stumped as what to do

Thryoid Bloods showed me actually being high (but I was only 2 weeks in to the change, so not the best timing) so I reduced 1/4 grain but not made any difference

Hello ExhaustedLee :

Did you also run blood tests for your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D ?

What were you taking before the switch to Thyroid S - and how much were you taking ?

What dose of NDT have you built up to, and what do you mean by " it " being high ??

Thank you. Vit D and B12 were run fairly recently and were okay. Although I supplement with Vit D spray

I was taking nature-throid before. 3 grains. I am now taking 2.75 grains of Thyroid S. I reduced dose 5 weeks ago.

By high I meant my Bloods were:

Ft3: 6.9 (3.1-6.8)

Ft4: 18 (12-22)

This was approx 2 weeks after starting thyroid-s (3 grains)

I believe the Nature Throid product was recalled in 2020 due to inconsistency of T3 and T4 content so if you were using stock from these batches it's likely difficult to draw a comparison with another brand of NDT.

So, as you know you have to wait around 6-8 weeks for the NDT to settle and you simply dose to the relief of symptoms.

Depending on the timing of the last dose and blood draw you will likely have a low suppressed TSH : a lower T4 than when on monotherapy BUT your T3 should be proportionately higher than when on T4 monotherapy and it's all about tracking the T3.

Whilst waiting for the NDT to settle it might help to track your pulse, blood pressure and temperature as you work through these more obvious physical symptoms of hypothyroidism.

The " science of the blood tests " ranges and guidelines were all introduced long after NDT was acknowledged and accepted as the treatment option for hypothyroidism and introduced when Big Pharma launched their own T3 and T4 hormone tablets off the back of NDT.

ExhaustedLee,

Different brands affect us differently, so we can't necessarily do a straight swap with dose amounts. As it happens, someone else has posted just today that they found Thyroid-s to be stronger and since reducing dose feels better. If I come across the comment again I'll add a link here.

It was the last comment by welsh_babe on this thread. healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Member is actually referring to different batches of the same brand (Thyroid-s), which goes to show one can't even be sure from one batch to another with this brand.

Thank you I will have a read

Hi! I take Thyroid S and have done for several years. Unfortunately, the batches are inconsistent and I have recently had to return one batch because it gave me strange symptoms. Unfortunately, I still don't feel brilliant on their latest batch either directly sourced from the manufacturer. I have been quite disappointed in Thyroid S of late, but it's cheaper by far compared to Erfa, Armor etc and easily sourced without a prescription, so I am rather tied. I definitely do not want to go back to Levothyroxine. I feel more fatigued and achey these days, but if I increase the dose, I get headaches, jumpy feelings and cannot sleep. Your not alone with issues with Thyroid S as you can see on other previous posts. What is the batch number of your meds and I can see if it is the same as I've had.

hi maple, can you please tell me what the packaging that comes from the manufacturer looks like? mine came unsealed with bubble wrap inside the bottle where cotton would normally be & the outside box was only covered in a strip of plastic that could be easily removed w/out ripping. outside of that it was very well covered in bubble wrap.

Hi papayarose. Sure... The Thyroid S bottle came in a sealed plastic wrapped, manufacturer's labelled box. The bottle itself was was not sealed. To be honest, I can't remember whether it was bubble wrap or cotton wool stuffed in it. I think it was cotton wool. It also had a little moisture resistant tab in it. If you didn't get your meds directly from the manufacturer, then it could well have been tampered with like two of my batches previously. I will only purchase from the manufacturer going forward.

I'm having some issues getting back on Thyroid-S as well. I had been on it about 5 years ago and did ok, but switched to NP Thyroid when I could get that easier through my doctor. But NP Thyroid had numerous recalls 2018-2021 and my symptoms and labs were all over the place this past year. With so many NDT product recalls and availability issues, I decided to go back to Thyroid S so I am not stuck dependent on a broken system right now. But I made the terrible mistake of dosing the Thyroid S at the same dose as NP Thyroid right off the bat (I wanted off the NP Thyroid ASAP due to my symptoms matching many reports of neurological issues, so I went cold turkey off the NP). I was terribly over-medicated for the first 2 days on Thyroid S. I had fantastic energy, but all of my nerves felt like they were on fire and my leg tremor came back. I skipped a day and backed down to 15 mg and 30 mg doses and decided I'll just deal with the hypo symptoms until I slowly work my way back up to whatever optimal dose will be. I'm guessing this batch I have is about twice as potent as the NP Thyroid I was taking. I was on 1.75 grains NP Thyroid and 30 mg Thyroid S almost wiped out my hypo symptoms the last week. I'm dosing off symptoms for 6 weeks until I run labs again.
