A few weeks ago I posted with a query regarding RAI or surgery to deal with a large non-toxic retrosternal goitre. Thank you to everyone that replied, I found your comments really helpful. This afternoon I saw another consultant who was a bit more forthcoming than the previous one. RAI wasn’t mentioned at all. Because the goitre is so large and descends so far down surgery is a last resort. We have decided to leave it alone for now and have another CT scan in six months to see if it is still growing. Apparently they can stop growing or even start to shrink on their own. I’m happy with that - I might actually sleep tonight!
Watchful waiting: A few weeks ago I posted with a... - Thyroid UK
Watchful waiting
Did you get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done as recommended in previous post
IBS and constipation often linked to being hypothyroid, especially autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies
Essential to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually
I understood the reason to have a full thyroid and vitamin test was before surgery so that I would know what my levels are when I’m well and would therefore have something to aim for with levothyroxine if and when my thyroid is removed. I have Bile Acid Malabsorption not IBS. I joined the group but it’s not much help. I wish there was a BAM presence on HU, it’s as common as celiac disease but rarely diagnosed, many doctors have never heard of it and tell their patients they have IBS. People are suffering as a result. Anyway - I digress.
