Hi Tracy, It will deffinitely be hormonal but may not be thyroid related. He needs TSH, T4 and Free T3 and male hormones tested. also vit D ( hormonal) for a start.Needs to ask for a print out with ranges of the result. It would also be a good idea to take his BP and manually heart rate 3 times a day, particually when this occurs, This should be for 2 weeks, keep records and show GP if "odd". BP must be an arm cuff, recommended one ( most are now), lie or sit 10 mins, no talking, arm straight on table, sit on chair, or lying in bed. Then if nothing obvious, it would be wise to consult the GP again. It is not" normal" but can be lots of things, some more important than others. I hope that helps
night sweats can be a sign of a number of illnesses some quite serious eg lymphoma. Perhaps he should ask the doctor to investigate and not just consider the thyroid as the cause.
