Golf ball in rib cage left side post covid. Any ideas?

I am recovering from having covid and was quite poorly with it. It has played havoc with my asthma. My self isolating ended on Monday and yesterday I did a flow test which was negative. I still have the occasional cough and my sense of smell is still not back. Last night when I went to bed and lay down I had a horrible pain in my left side under my left boob. It feels like a golf ball is stuck under my ribcage. It is still there and quite uncomfortable. Ive taken antacids but they made no difference. I'm on lots of painkillers including naproxen but nothing is helping. I'm loathe to call 111 as I really don't want to spend the weekend at the hospital and I don't think it is an emergency. I have no symptoms that match with a heart attack. I have an ecg booked on Thursday as I have had problems with breathlessness and odd twinges but not like this. I have also had costochondritis recently. Any ideas as to what can be causing this and what will relieve the pain?

Nobody here is medically qualified and can't possibly give any indication as to what your problem is or what you should be taking for it. If you are concerned then you should be calling 111 if your GP doesn't have an out of hours number or wait until your surgery reopens on Monday.

Feel better Pinkcat24 🤗 Hubby still has a cough, 3mths after Covid amd walking in the cold air tonight was a trigger too. Hopefully you will seek out some medical advise, as much as I hate using doctors and hospitals, sometimes they do have more knowledge and Ofcourse those scans and X-rays machines.

I am so very sorry to hear this! Sending you hugs! I am in a completely identical situation and still no smells as well. Since October 10, but still high fever. That EXACT place you described I have as well. At first there was strange pain as if there was glass and needles there. Doctor revealed 25% lung damage there. Ok, I thought it will heal and the pain will go away, then I had really weird crackling loud sounds from there that scared my cat even. But with recovery the pain persisted and even increased in area. My doctor prescribed heart ultrasound, ECG, blood and urine tests. Inflammation was very little, and X-ray showed that all damage completely gone. As a last resort my doctor prescribed 5 intramuscular injections of dexamethasone steroid of 4 mg+B vitamin injections. And, within 40 minutes from the first shot that exact pain completely gone! I was shocked and happy. Also I do suppositories of a very effective drug called Longidaze that prevents formation of fibrosis in lungs after covid. Also I take high doses of enzymes (Wobenzyme) on empty stomach and it helps break down inflammation and according to bloodwork my C-reactive protein is 0. In next days I did feel even without pain that something mechanically irritates that place. Yesterday I had my last shot and the pain is almost completely gone. I will still be consulting a pulmonologist next week because sometimes there is a thing called hydrothorax, even very tiny, from liquid buildup that is not seen on frontal XRay and either a lateral X-ray needed or a CT. I hope you feel better soon!

I am afraid I have little confidence in 111 and you seem pretty sure it is not a heart attack. Remember please that women often do not fit into the classic heart attack symptoms. All that said this could still be Costochondritis symptoms or from the coughing. Get better soon.

Oh I had Costochondritis several years ago. Didn’t feel like this poster is describing though. Just felt like I had broken ribs.

Hi Pinkcat24,

Hot hot hot baths? The heat helps the pain, the steam helps the asthma/clears the airways. Maybe add in herbs? Like thyme, sage, bay leaves etc. My partner would tease me I'm cooking or was making a broth of myself. Hot baths with eucalyptus etc really hep me with my plural effusion/rib cage pain.

Chest infection?

I had post Covid syndrome, or Long Covid, for almost a year after having the virus. The sensations you are describing are similar to what I experienced. I think it is from inflammation of the lymph nodes and yes there are loads of lymph nodes in and around the breast and armpits. I also got it in the inguinal nodes which are in the groin area. I used percussion massager and manual massage to get the lymph fluid flowing again. Consuming foods and herbs high in flavanoids also helps with getting over Long Covid.
