Do I need an increase in Thyroxine

Hi, some advice required please. I have had some additional blood tests done including FT3 following some advice here a few weeks ago, results as follows:

TSH 0.1mu/L range 0.27 - 4.2

FT4 17.8 pmol/L range 12 -22

FT3 4.7 pmol/L range 3.1 - 6.8

Vit D 68 nmol/L range > 75

Vit D slightly low, previous blood test result (September 2021) indicated B12 and Folate very low, but now being treated by GP.

My question is should I be asking for an increase in Thyroxine current dose 125 microgram daily My weight is approx 86kg. Symptoms: tired, poor sleep quality, low resting heart rate 54 bpm, scalloped and painful tongue and swollen inner cheeks.

Thanks

Steve

Absolutely Steve. I use this calculator

chorobytarczycy.eu/kalkulator

Your FT4 is only 58%through range and your FT3 only 43%through range. Neither of which are high enough. Push for a 25mcg per day increase. Retest 6wks later.

Thanks for your reply NWA6, will try but I suspect the GP may refuse, given that they are typically only concerned with TSH, but fingers crossed!

Just tell that that you’ve got loads of wiggle room, no where near top of the range and you’re still symptomatic. If they talk of risks, let them know that you are well aware of any potential symptoms of over medication, ie anxiety, sweating, heart palpitations and you are very willing to keep a diary and keep GP informed of any unpleasant changes.

However, there won’t be any unpleasant changes, only potential relief from hypo symptoms. But we have to play the game of ‘my GP knows better than me’ even though this is rarely the case 😬

Brilliant advice, many thanks for your wise words and help NWA6, much appreciated.

Once or twice, I may have refused to leave the GP’s consultation room until they agreed to an increase 😬 I may have ever so slightly been a bit of a drama Queen, but I blame it in on my Hashi’s 😎 Once I was optimal treated, I had no more ‘episodes’ 🤪

And actually, you being male will work to your advantage. It’s well known in the medical world that women are hysterical and men never ask for help, so when they do, they are believed and respected for taking control of their health 🙈

ROFLMAO I know my GP thinks that this woman is hysterical, especially when he tells me that T3 is an illegal drug!

I will tell you this, when i was lowish in my vitamin D, i had extreme fatigue and body aches and arms and legs......so i take d3 5000 w k2 in it to keep it going to the right places, and i take a B COMPLEX since b vitamins work best together and make sure it has folate and not folate acid in it and has the meth form of b12 and not the cyanide form.....and you can get b12 that dissolves under the tongue i buy on amazon for extra boost to b12

...i use pure encapsulations b complex... ( also note the thyroid needs certain nutrients to work properly with or without medication so taking a thyroid support supplement may help you since some of these nutrients are critical to conversion of t4 to t3 as well)
