Tirosint and cytomel vs Synthroid and cytomel?

Any benefits, differences between tirosint and Synthroid? My labs are a little wonky, and idk if that’s due to the lactose/fillers in Synthroid, or the low FT3.

I just filled an rx for the same dose as my Synthroid in tirosint and am a little scared to make the switch. Any good reviews? Bad reviews? Labs in history.

I used to take Synthroid (20 years) and have since changed to Tirosint with no issues. The Tirosint doesn't have the fillers that so many have issues with. I take it in combination with T3 and have for some 5 years now.

Did you have to reduce dose, etc?

Were there any changes or differences you noticed?

Are labs more stable on tiro and cytomel?

Long story but originally was on 137 mcg Synthroid and 10 mcg T3. Endo did not change dose just added T3 and I had issues big time. Went T3 only for about 1 1/2 years then went to Tirosint and T3. I've been on Tirosint 75 mcg and 25 mcg T3 for almost 3 years now. I do feel more stable I guess you would say since going on this combo.

What issues did you have? Were you optimally medicated on 137 T4 before adding the T3?

No I was not optimal by any means. Yes, TSH .525 FT4 .42 and FT3 2.6. She then added the T3 without taking away any T4 so in about 3 months my TSH was .011 my FT4 was 1.67 and FT3 was 3.9. So at this point I felt wonderful and had not felt that way in years. Shor lived, however. Fast forward 6 months. Lethargic, no restful sleep, woke up tired, gaining weight were major symptoms. I tested again and this time showed big changes. TSH .013 FT4 1.95 (over range) FT3 3.4 and RT3 60.2 (big time over range). I had to go off T4 completely and tested again 10 weeks later and TSH .286, FT4 .32, RT3 6.2 Ft3 3.2-bottom of range (this was on 30 mcg T3 only) so I started to add T4 back and backed off the T3 some. Next time I tested TSH .23, FT4 1.3, RT3 26 (over range), FT3 2.7-bottom of range. So from that point on I stopped T4 and slowly added T3 until I got to 50 mcg T3 only and stayed on it approximately 1 1/2 yrs) until new Endo freaked and would not keep my on T3 only. I was feeling fine, no overmedicated symptoms and my FT3 was 4-4.5 during that time period. I did agree to change to the combo but at that time I wanted something that had a little as possible for fillers and Tirosint fit that bill. Since getting up to the 75 mcg T4/25 mcg T3 my numbers have stayed pretty stable TSH .02, FT3 3.4, FT4 .9-1.0 and for the most part have kept the RT3 down anywhere from 12-19. I hope this answers your questions. I have more restful sleep (for the most part) although I've been gaining weight again for no apparent reason but feel something is off The pharmacy changed up my Liothyronine to Sun Pharma and think it is less potent. I have labs middle of November so we will see.

I started a spreadsheet of labs some years ago and also a journal starting back in 2014 to track things for me otherwise I' d be lost. :)

How did FT4 increase with the increase in T3 on same dose of T4 when you went from 137 T4 to 137 T4 + T3?

I don't know. All I can tell you is what the labs showed. The T3 was only 10 mcg per day at that time and the rest was T4.

But your FT4 went up when adding the T3? That’s odd

I hear you, but all I can tell you is what the labs said. I was on that particular dose of T4 and T3 for about 9 months and with each lab test over that period of time the FT4 increased from 1.42 to 1.95. My FT3 went from 2.6 to 3.9 to 2.7 to 3.4 (at this last test my RT3 60.2)then last test before going total T3 my FT4 1.9 FT3 2.5 and RT3 51.6 (on .112mcg Synthroid and .10 mcg T3 for that test).
