Do you need more thyroid hormone if you start an exercise regime?

Does exercise use up t4 or t3? How do thyroid hormone requirements change? Will you need to increase your thyroid hormone if start an intense exercise regime? I am diagnosed with central hypothyroidism.

Thank you

There was a study done on nice that showed intense exercise 'burned up' T3. I'm afraid I don't have the link as I've changed my phone and lost all my saved links but it was posted originally by tattyboggle. You could search her posts to find it. 🌱

I’ve not found that I need to add more Levo or Liothyronine if I increase my normal exercise routine, but some members do adjust upwards if they find that they are adversely affected by a new routine. I think it’s all trial and error to find out what works best for you seashellsunset.

Yes just dropped my t3 to less than 50% through range from top 75% by doing a massive memorial walk. Need to tweak to get it back up now. Hair falling out, guts awful and feel like hit a brick wall. 🤷‍♂️

I find I need more T3 when exercising. Again trial & error

I was taking 5mcg twice a day 8hrs apart and felt brilliant. I joined a gym and started exercising. After a short while I began feeling very tired especially early evening. I spoke to my private only Endocrinologist about my situation. He advised I added a third dose at 8pm. I did this and that worked for me. I was still able to sleep normally. So I took 5mcg three times a day 8hrs apart. When I stopped going to the gym when the pandemic arrived I had to reduce back down to 5mcg twice a day as I started going over medicated.

So, yes I feel you do need an increase when exercising more on a regular basis. T3 is an energy drug amongst other things. So the more energy you burn the more you need but it must be taken throughout the day not in one hit if you’re a poor converter.
