Thank you for your reply. That looks like a good one.I read that vitamin D should be taken with the fattiest meal of the day .I wan to try to take this 3 times a day initially so hopefully eating some cheese or milk with it will help!!
Do you take it 3 times a day if you don't mind me asking?
I take 8 or 10 drops with my evening meal. I didn't know about the fatty meal - maybe I should have it with my lunch which is usually cheese & biscuits.
Thanks.I think I read it on here somewhere that it is best to take with the fattiest meal of the day but cannot remember where! I suppose it's ok as long as you don't take it on an empty stomach.
Vit D in tablet or capsule form should be taken with dietary fat.
Oil based softgels has the oil to aid absorption so the need for dietary fat is less.
If the Thorne D3/K2 drops are oil based so there is some oil to aid absorption; however, as both D3 and K2 are fat soluble they will compete for the oil to be absorbed so it might be worth taki g with some dietary fat.
One thing I would say about the Thorne drops is the ratio of K2 to D3.
90-100mcg K2 is enough for up to 10,000iu D3.
The Thorne drops contain 1,000iu D3 and 200mcg K2, so far more K2 than is actually needed, and if you need more than 1,000iu D3 daily (and that is really just a maintenance dose for someone with a good level already) then you would be taking a very large amount of K2.
I take an oil based softgel by Doctor's Best and for K2-mk7 I use either Vitabay or Vegavero.
Sorry to be a pain but I have looked at the vegavero D3/K2 which seem good but they look biggish in the photo! Are they smaller than the photo?! Must be psychological that I cannot swallow tablets as they are smaller than a mouthful of food!
It gives you the size in the second picture and they are big but they're not tablets they're gel capsules so should be easier to swallow; however, I've never used them, I use the tiny tablets of K2 and take a separate D3.
Oh yes,i did not see that photo at first, sorry!I think i will try the small K2 and a separate vit D3.
Do you also take magnesium as we are supposed to take this to help convert D3 to its active form and because large doses of Vit D can deplete magnesium from what I have read on here.
If so do you recommend a particular type and doseage?
Thank you very much for answering all my questions.

Yes, this is what I include in my responses when supplementing with D3 is needed.
Yes I take magnesium.

Nobody can tell you which form of magnesium you need, they all have different uses. Check them out and decide which would suit you best:
Not good for those people who have no interest in joining Facebook.
Cod liver oil contains far more Vit A than Vit D. I teaspoon of cod liver oil can contain 4,500iu Vit A and 450iu Vit D. Too much Vit A is toxic and can cause liver and bone problems.
The British Dietetic Association recommends only taking one supplement containing Vit D, and they count cod liver oil as a supplement
That Facebook forum has over 200,000 members. They must be doing something right. There is no danger in joining Facebook. With an app named Facebook Purity, you can control what kind of posts you receive. I've learn a great deal from this forum. I keep in pause and only check it when I wish to search for something. Nothing to fear from Facebook. You can always leave.
Afraid there are many potential dangers in joining facebook.
Not least the possible release of anything you post there - even if private. After all, technical issues can and do occur even if such release is unintentional. This is far more of an issue than here as there is far greater likelihood of people using their real identities (strongly encouraged). At least within HU, you are likely to be discussing just one segment of your life.
Facebook Purity has been renamed Fluff Busting Purity as facebook objected to the name.
You can leave facebook. But actually making sure as much as possible of your information is deleted before you leave takes quite some extra effort.
Why would you post anything private anywhere on the internet?? I got answers I could not find elsewhere to some questions by asking them on the forum or simply by doing a search. My own Facebook group consists of close family and close friends. I love seeing photos of my neices and nephews and sharing great animal photos. I've gotten a great deal from Facebook and it has certainly done me no harm.
If you read some posts here on this forum, you will find lots and lots of personal information. My point about private was that even closed groups which are supposed to be private, even if you really do personally know everyone with whom you interact, nothing precludes the possibility of your information being leaked or accessed by those who shouldn't.
However, this is not the place for a full discussion about facebook. I just wanted to make it clear to anyone else that it has its own dangers. That you have never identified any harm coming to you, doesn't mean there is no potential for bad things.
I have Erdheim Chester Disease. When I was first diagnosed, available studies had me dead within 2 years. Then I found the ECD Facebook forum, some members of which are alive and even improving after 10 years.
Also I have found one by Nutravita D3 and K2 drops and that says that there is 1000 iu of D3 per drop and 20ug (or 20mcg as apparently mcg and ug are the same) so this seems better than the 200 mcg of K2 in Thorne.
My choice is either the Vitabay or the Vegavero because they use the All Trans form of K2-MK7 rather than the Cis form.
K2-MK7 comes in two forms - All-Trans form and Cis form.
All-Trans form v Cis form:
The best form of K2-MK7 is the All-Trans form rather than the Cis form. The All-Trans form is the bioactive form, the Cis form is inactive (a bit like methylfolate is the bioactive form of folic acid).
There's lots of information available but mainly seems to be on sites selling supplements so I wont link to them, but the message is:
"Since trans-isomer MK-7 are more readily used by our body, they are considered more bioactive. Many K2 ingredients have a mixture of cis and trans isomers, depending on how well they are produced. You’ll want to look for K2 supplements with a high percentage of trans-isomer MK-7, ideally 100%."
The Cis form is cheaper and is what many K2-MK7 supplements use but they don't tell you this.
In Japan people with osteoporosis are given 45 milligrams of K2. It's not toxic.I take 900 mcg twice per week. No problem. So if she takes 1000 mcg, it's fine.
Thorne IS expensive though. I take Jarrow K Right which has K1 and two types of K2.
Originally what I'd read years ago is that K1 and K2 are different and that ingesting lots of K1 doesn't mean a person gets K2. But recently I've read a scientific paper that states K1 will be metabolized into K2.
Have you considered transdermal D3 plus K2 patches? They stick on the skin, so no big tablets or citric acid problems, and they bypass the stomach for a slow, effective release. You can get them on eBay or the main website:
Yes, I've tried them - was sceptical too..., but to be honest, they really helped. Taking vit d3 tablets really hurt my stomach, so taking these was a welcome relief. I found I had more energy, any cuts and bruises healed quicker, and aches and pains eased up too. I only put the patch on once a week, as they're quite strong - but found it was worth it, as they're quite cheap, and last a long time...
Yes, they work well in moderation. I used to take K2 (MK-7) separately (for joint/bone pain), but these patches have K2 in them, so just put these on before bedtime once a week), and symptoms have eased off.
Oh, and I found where they're sold on Amazon - with much better reviews, a bit similar to my own - seems like there's more of a in-depth wellness community there... amazon.co.uk/dp/B08PW6LQLL
I was surprised to see that the patches were roughly £6 more expensive on Amazon though, (probably because of Prime delivery). I could only see the pp on their ebay page.
You have to fill in details before finding out pp at checkout on your link for the website and I didn’t go that far.
Basically I was curious as to what they were like, because at the moment I have enough D3 etc. to be going on with. But it was interesting to see other patches too and for anyone who doesn’t like swallowing pills I should think they are a godsend.
Glad to help ☺️ On their website, it’s £2.50 for pp, but you get a 15% discount with the code “healthysummer”. So in all £6.22, which isn’t that bad for 30days supply. I take their B12 and D3 for my deficiencies, and hemp patches for pain, which for me is nicer than pills, which my poor tummy seems to rage against.
Hi - do you use Facebook at all? If so, try joining the Vitamin D Wellness group. They have a protocol to follow with recommended D3 and Vit K suppliers.
Hi ginid, I take Lamberts D3+K2 capsules since they were recommended by an endo almost two years ago. They’re small and easy to swallow as capsules, so softish. Not the cheapest but meant to be high quality, about £16 for 60 - one a day - if you go to a shop, but can get them £13 online and free postage if you buy 2 pots at a time.Yes, take them with the most fatty meal of the day and, I think, four hours away from Levo.
I take Vitabiotics Ultra Vitamin D. Was recommended by doctor when I had to take 20,000iu a day for three weeks as very low after cancer. I find this brand very good and the tablets are quite small.
Think I am probably replying to myself here but anyway I'd like to thank everyone for their replies. I would add that I have found another K2 vitamin by Pharma Nord K2 Pearls which are 100% trans isomer so I have opted for them and a liquid Vitamin D.
