If you do then list them to discuss with your GP and ask for testing for B12 deficiency and Pernicious Anaemia. Do not take any B12 supplements or folic acid/folate/B Complex supplements before further testing of B12 as this will mask signs of B12 deficiency and skew results.
If you don't then it is probably fine for you to supplement with sublinguasl B12 1000mcg, along with a good quality, bioavailable B Complex to keep all B Vitamins balanced. When you have finished the one bottle of B12 your level should have increased enough for you to dispense with that and just continue with the B Complex.
This contains two the active forms of B12 - methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin.
For B Complex I like Thorne Basic B.
Be aware that any B Complex you use should contain methylcobalamin and methylfolate as these are the active forms of the ingredients. Also be aware that any B Complex containing Vit C will keep the body from using the B12. Vit C needs to be taken 2 hours away from B12.
When taking B Complex we should leave this off for 7 days before any blood test, this is because it contains biotin and gives false results when biotin is used in the testing procedure (which most labs do).
I wish eating liver would improve my ferritin level as much as yours! I don't know how much you eat but you could possibly reduce it and see how it affects your level.
Vit D is recommended to be 100-150nmol/L by the Vit D Society and Grassroots Health, with Grassroots Health recently making this blog post suggesting at least 125nmol/L for optimal thyroid function:
Wow thanks for your very detailed advice . My GP has said my b12 is fine as there test shows it’s normal.
I have had some of those symptoms mouth ulcers esp and other symptoms, the doc won’t do anything then I’ll just carry on with jarrows 1000 lozenges then
Some people with Total B12 in the 300s have been found to need B12 injections, it's all down to symptoms with B12 not numbers but not all GPs know the guidelines.
Ok my GP doesn’t think I need them so I’m not sure what to do now . I’ll just keep supplementing . Someone has told me about transdermal b12 being absorbed better .
It isn't bad and it's within the 100-150nmol/L range recommended, so it's up to you. Some people prefer to be at the top of that range, some are fine just being in the range.
