I take my Levothyroxine 1st thing an hour before food but not sure which are suitable foods to eat for breakfast

I’ve read in the Role of Vitamins & Minerals in Thyroid Disease leaflet, that taking iron at the same time as thyroid hormone will bind with some of the thyroid hormone & block it’s absorption. Also, fibre & calcium carbonate if taken simultaneously with thyroid hormone, may also interfere with absorption of the hormone.

I always leave an hour until breakfast but I’m struggling to know what is suitable to eat. I leave any iron rich foods till lunch. I’m gluten and dairy free. I have Candida so am avoiding fruit. Recently I’ve just had a couple of rice cakes and then make a more substantial meal 4 hours after my Levo.

When i read ‘fibre if taken simultaneously with thyroid hormone, may interfere with absorption of the hormone’ , makes me wonder if rice cakes aren’t the best choice. It might be ok as I’m leaving an hour between.

I’d really like to have a good , more substantial breakfast though.

Could anyone suggest anything that works for them please? 🙏🏽

Totally agree. If you leave the required hour, it shouldn't matter what you eat. :)

(I see the like button is working again!)

You can take levothyroxine at bedtime

Often more convenient and can be more effective

Thanks for replying SlowDragon. I tried taking at bedtime a couple of years ago but not for very long. I started worrying about whether my stomach was empty at bedtime versus taking on empty stomach in morning. I found a post on here from XxAnyaxX , 2 months ago , really helpful replies and info. Now been taking at bedtime for last 3 days.

Does make mornings with breakfast foods much easier for me. 😊

Yes, same here with no snacks now after dinner. Also stops me overeating at dinner time. Thinking more carefully now about meals
