Natural thyroid medication

I’m new here and in desperate need of help!

After 12 years of taking natural Erfa Thyroxine my new Endocrine Consultant is now refusing to monitor me unless I go back to taking levothyroxine. My GP has being prescribing my Erfa so long as I’m being monitored by an Endocrine Consultant. I live in the North East (Co Durham). Does anyone know of any NHS Consultants who would be sympathetic to my situation and willing to further monitor me?

Thanks

Hello JAE ;

If you go in the Thyroid uk website who are the charity who support this amazing forum you can ask to be sent a list of sympathetic specialists and endocrinologists - whether there is someone on there or not, I do not know.

If your doctor is happy to support your prescription, and a medical need already established as to why you need NDT why does this endocrinologist " think " s/he knows better ?

It is all about costs, and not your health and well being :

If push comes to shove you can self medicate as many of us on here have been forced to do:

Efra contains trace elements of T1.T2. and calcitonin plus a measure of T3 at around 9 mcg per grain plus a measure of T4 at around 38 mcg per grain - how does this new endocrinologist propose to replace all of these trace and known thyroid hormones and maintain your current health ?

Email Thyroid UK for list of recommend thyroid specialist endocrinologists. List includes information as to wether they will typically prescribe T3 or NDT

Hi JAE69 - I have been on Levothyroxin for nearly 30 years. Currently 175 mcg 3 days /wk and 200 mcg 4 days/wk. I had a thyroidectomy due to cancer. I have have never been satisfied with how I have felt since my illness began. My blood results T3&4 look good but still many problems with energy and depression and motivation. Not sure how I’ve survived but I have. Anyway-I am going to make an appointment with an endocrinologist in Edinburgh soon as I know that she will consider T3 supplements. My current endocrinologist has never been a fan - will not prescribe T3. Once I have met new endocrinologist I will feedback how I get on. I know this isn’t helpful but I will get back to you when I get some results-in the meantime I wish you well. 😊😊
