Dropping thyroid hormones and hair shedding

Hi

Would a drop from a free t3 of 6.3 (3.1-6.8) to 3.8(3.1-6.8) be enough to trigger hair shedding? Thanks

An FT3 level of 3.8 (3.1-6.8) suggests that you are undermedicated.

If you post your full results/ranges and tell us what thyroid meds you are taking we can maybe help you.

Besides hypothyroidism/undermedication hair loss can also be caused by low or deficient nutrient levels, in particular ferritin:

That’sa really helpful article. Thanks for sharing. I have Chronic Kidney Disease so eat a plant based diet but I’m very aware that there might be possible deficiencies.

Jessica668,

Changes in hair such as life cycle or texture can be from low iron levels. This is because your hair follicles actually store ferritin, and so when it's deficient, it will steal from the stored supply leaving hair follicles short.

However, actual hair shedding is common with any change of T3 level whether raising or lowering.

Quite possibly. What’s caused that—a dose reduction?
