Hi. I have just had test results back from Medichecks they are as follows:-

TSH 5.54 (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 4.73 (3.1-6.8)

Free T4 10 (12-22)

I have been feeling dreadful lately due to vertigo and have had to take prochlorperazine every day due to the extreme nausea and feeling really off balance. Its the only change to my normal medication that I take and I have now been told not to take it after having a telephone consultation with an ENT and told to use cerrazine instead. I do have to have lots of tests done as a telephone consultation is not adequate for problems with the inner ear, but goodness knows how long I will have to wait for that. I did see on the information about the tablets that people with thyroid issues should be careful but it didn't state whether that was for people whom were hypo or hyper.

My normal tsh is under 1and I feel ok at that level, so I am assuming its these tablets which have caused the change in the TSH. I don't want to change my 1 1/2 grains NDT at the moment though as if it is the tablets then hopefully with me stopping them the TSH should start to lower.

I've just had a range of blood tests done through the gp so will see what comes back with those. I know they won't do the full thyroid range hence me doing it myself but hopefully they will at least do the B12, Ferritin, Folate I asked for.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Thank you for the link. I have to take beta blockers but have been on them for years and they haven't caused any problems so I assume it is the stemetil. I have put on 81/2 lbs in 2.5 weeks which is horrendous as I know I haven't eaten that much!! I do have hashi's though so know my levels can fluctuate but I am inclined to wait and see what happens without the tablets before I start adding more NDT.

So Cerrazine is to take instead of Prochlorperazine? Was this because of the thyroid contraindication?

I’ve just googled Cerrazine but cannot find it!

Hi. I spelt cinnarizine wrong that's why you can't find it. Its an antihistamine used for vertigo. My gp did not know that stematil had contraindications with thyroid. The ENT told me not to use it on a daily basis as its a heavy duty drug and should only be used for times when the vertigo is seriously bad. I can't always tell when an attack is going to happen so it makes it difficult to medicate as often its too late and I'm in for a bad couple of hours of non stop room spinning and vomiting and feeling spaced out/off balance for the next few days. I hope when I actually see the ENT and they do tests that they can get to the root cause of why this is happening.

Thanks for your reply, Catlover. I’m so sorry you are suffering with Vertigo. As I have a similar condition I know what it’s like to be flat out on the sofa not daring to move with a bowl on the floor!I have a prescription for Prochlorperazine, 3xday, but I have only taken a couple of tablets when needed. As I strictly limit my activities I can’t avoid slight dizziness but can avoid it getting to the point of being sick, most of the time.

Thanks for sharing the recommendation of Cinnarizine, I shall investigate whether that might also be suitable for me.

I’m glad your ENT people are investigating further. Mine seem to have written me off , twice, with very little investigation, and told me to do the vestibular eye movement exercises. But, to be fair, I don’t think I have as many episodes as you do! I have had the problem for about 10 years, though, and it really limits what I can do. Sorting paperwork is an absolute no, as is general tidying up.

I’m interested in your Vertigo journey, if you’re happy to share.

Best xx

Hi. I will let you know how I get on as it is a horrible condition to deal with. When you tell people you suffer with vertigo they just think you get a bit dizzy now and again but for me at the moment it is the feeling of being "spaced out" that is hard to manage. I also find that I get headaches from frowning to keep my eyes focused and have given myself tension in the shoulders and neck from trying not to have a dizzy spell by moving the wrong way. I am hoping that I can manage without medication but only time will tell! Best wishes Catlover3

I can identify with the symptoms of vertigo. ENT decided it wasn't an ear problem but neurologist diagnosed vestibular migraine. Note that migraines don't always cause bad headaches! That doesn't solve the problem but sets you off on a different path looking for help. I too have prochloperazine for acute episodes. There are various preventatives and I have tried a few over the years but gave up because of side effects. They do help some people. For me the addition of magnesium supplements helped. Hope you and Catlover find something that helps. X

Thanks, Oatcake, the different diagnoses are interesting. I don’t have a specific diagnosis. I take magnesium and vits D and B12.

I have an appointment at ENT, but just as on my first visit it’s because they are more interested in my hearing problems than dizziness. But when I go I’ll see if I can get them back on diagnosing and treating the dizziness as it’s much more important to me.

Are you a Staffordshire oatcake? Love them - they were in our supermarket down south for a while but then they disappeared.😔

Ah, a Scottish oatcake. Never had Staffordshire ones - must look out for them! I have one-sided hearing loss and have seen ENT about that too. Good luck with vertigo issues. It's horrible- I think only fellow sufferers can understand. X
